BARNESVILLE BOY’S BASKETBALL POWERS PAST CROOKSTON FOR SECTION 8AA VICTORY

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Basketball team traveled to Barnesville on Tuesday night for a Section 8AA matchup, but the Trojans had no problems from the very start, cruising the entire game for an 88-29 win.

FIRST HALF –
The two teams traded points early on and both teams were on fire to start the game. Crookston was able to knock down three early three-pointers as Reggie Winjum, Ryan Abeld, and Jack Everett were all able to connect. The problem for Crookston was that they weren’t able to get stops, and Barnesville was able to push the ball in transition for easy layups which allowed them to be in front early 15-13. Crookston started to cool off, and the final ten minutes was all Barnesville, as the Trojans were able to end the half on a 36-7 run, taking a 51-20 lead into the halftime break. Barnesville had seven different players score and used their athleticism to outmatch Crookston as well as speed the Pirates up. Crookston’s leading scorers in the first half were Hunter Nicholas and Tanner Giese with 4 points each.

SECOND HALF –
The Trojans didn’t let up in the second half, and that paired with a cold shooting start for the Pirates resulted in a 15-0 run for Barnesville to start the half and build the lead all the way up to 66-20, forcing a Crookston timeout with 13:05 to play. The Pirates continued to shoot ice cold, and outside of one layup by Hunter Nicholas, and one three from Jack Everett, they couldn’t find points. Barnesville continued to light it up, pushing the lead all the way to 81-25 with 8:26 to play. Both teams started to get new players into the game, and with Barnesville in front by more than 35+ points, the rest of the game was played with running time. The Trojans would go on to win the game 88-29.

Crookston falls to 6-10 and will host Fertile-Beltrami on Friday night. Barnesville improves to 8-4 and will play defending Section 8AA Champs Perham on Thursday.
