Betty Lou Floan – Obit

Betty Lou (Erikson) Floan, 90, Fertile, MN, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 24, 2021, the same day as her wedding anniversary.

She was born February 13, 1930, to Elma (Erickson) and Herman R. Erikson in Fertile, MN.  Betty Lou Floan

As a young girl, she attended a small country school near the Erickson farm and then went on to high school at the Northwest Agriculture School in Crookston. On January 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Wesley C. Floan at a small chapel in Moorhead. The two made their home on the Floan farm in rural Fertile living in a small trailer. Later they moved into a home on the farm where their family grew, raising five children. Betty became a dedicated wife and mother, assisting with farm chores including working in the potato fields. Even at age 90 she enjoyed mowing the large farmyard with a zero turn mower and loved being outdoors, especially with her Corgi dog, Maggie.

Betty had dedicated her life to the Lord shortly after her marriage when her in-laws (Henry and Agnes Floan) invited her to a revival meeting. Her faith grew strong and solid in her Lord. Betty and Wesley were members of Varnes Lutheran Church and later became members of Maple Bay Free Lutheran Church. Betty also enjoyed fellowship with members of the Resurrection Free Lutheran Church in Beltrami, MN.

She was an active 4-H club leader with her children. She was also very crafty making prayer blankets and participating in craft shows, most recently being known for her making of pizzelles.

Betty loved being a foster grandparent at the Fertile Beltrami School with Kerri Solie and the 2nd graders. This kept her active and young and she missed the zest this brought to her life.

She is survived by four children, Wanda (Kenny) Visser, Wayne (Karen) Floan, Brian (Pam) Floan, and Brenda (Steve) Johnson; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother, James Erikson; sister, Glendora Ficken; and son, Bertrum Floan.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
