Candice Wise – OBIT

Candice Susan Wise, 78, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, November 27, 2023, in the Benedictine Living Community in Crookston, MN.

Candy, as she was affectionately known to family and friends throughout her life, was born on July 11, 1945, in Virginia, MN, the daughter of Donald and Marion (Berg) Sellberg. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and as a young girl moved with her family to Crookston. She began her education in Crookston schools, Candy went on to graduate from Central High School as a member of the Class of 1963. A few months later, on August 23r, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jerry Wise. Their beautiful ceremony was held in the Trinity Lutheran Church where they were members to the present time. In the coming years their union would be blessed by the births of Tim, Jodi, Todd, and Tom. Jerry and Candy made their first home in Crookston, before moving to nearby Eldred, MN, a few years later. As the kids grew older, Candy began working for Schraeder’s Auto Parts Store and then at Pamida where she remained until retirement. While in Eldred, she was active with the Ladies Aid at the First English Lutheran Church in Eldred. In 2009 Candy and Jerry moved back to Crookston. A few months ago, she became a resident of the Benedictine Living Community as her health began to decline.

While her children were younger Candy served as one of their 4-H leaders. Eventually as their nest emptied, Candy and Jerry enjoyed traveling. Candy always wanted to get in the car and have Jerry drive her around.   Occasionally they visited some favorite destinations more than once. Candy always had things for Jerry to do around the house and the yard.   She loved decorating her home to her liking.   She loved decorating for Christmas and other holidays.  She also enjoyed her time in ceramics making multiple items for family.  Candy and Jerry also loved giving out “pop” for Halloween when they lived in Eldred.  The kids, now adults, still talk about it to this day.

Candy adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She often spoke of them in her conversations and her thoughts of them made her challenging days more bearable.

In addition to Jerry, Candy’s beloved husband and best friend for over 60 years, she is survived by their 4 children: Tim Wise (Deanna Fredricks) of Crookston, Jodi (Wise) Huether of Fargo, ND, Todd (Sarah) Wise of Fertile, MN, and Tom (Kerry) Wise of Onalaska, WI; 11 grandchildren: Jeff Wise, Jordan (Kaeley) Wise, Mia Charette, Brittany Wise, Savannah (Drake) Biggers, Micah (Rebecca) Wise, Jacob Wise, Aaron (Nichole) Wise, Breeanna (Tyler) Berg, Nicholas (Georgia) Wise, and Jillian Wise;  10 great-grandchildren: Ryker and Declan Wise, Nathan Wise-Slaback, Aubrey Slaback, Ryley Teubert, Ragnar Biggers, Gideon Wise, Blake Wise, Liam Berg, and Maisie Wise; 2 siblings, Jackie (Sellberg) Saxe and her husband Butch Saxe of Columbia Heights, MN, and Jim Sellberg of Yakima, WA; 2 sisters-in-law, RoseMarie Wise of Crookston, MN, and Debi Hohman of Ada, MN; her two fur-baby pups, Riley and Blossom; and several nieces and nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.

By her passing, Candy has now been reunited with her parents, Donald and Marion Sellberg; parents-in-law, Art and Sophie Wise; and brothers-in-law, Jay Wise and Mark Hohman and sister-in-law Julie Sellberg,

May God richly bless the memory of Candice Susan (Sellberg) Wise.
