Climax-Fisher Girl’s Basketball outpaced by Kelliher/Northome

The Climax-Fisher Knights Girls’ Basketball team ran into a very good Kelliher/Northome Mustang team on Monday. The Mustangs sprinted to an 89-47 win in Fisher.

FIRST HALF –
As the first half began, and Kelliher/Northome got the opening bucket, Lucy Paulsrud answered with a 3-pointer to give the Knights a 3-2 lead a minute into the game. However, that would be the only lead that the Knights would have in the entire half, as the Mustangs surged from then on. Kate Thayer hit two 3-pointers to start the run, and after Brooklyn Hoffman hit a putback shot to make it 7-5, the Mustangs exploded on a 17-0 run to take a 24-5 lead. Shots from deep was the big key in this half for Kelliher/Northome, as they were able to hit 6 of them, 3 of which by Bristol Binkley. Thayer, Binkley and Alli Lundin each scored in double figures, and the Mustangs took off running. They created more and more turnovers, allowing themselves to break 50 points with just over two minutes left, culminating with 57 in the half. Hoffman had a good half, scoring 13 points, but the rest of the team could only put up 9 points, and the Knights trailed by 35 at the half.

SECOND HALF –
As the second half started, Climax-Fisher and Kelliher-Northome began exchanging baskets at a pretty quick rate. Thayer and Binkley were unstoppable, outscoring the entire Knights team by 8 points just on their own. A big key that hasn’t been mentioned to this point was the Mustangs’ ability to crash the offensive glass and gained multiple chances. On top of that, the defense locked down almost everybody on the Knights, allowing only four players to score, while the Mustangs had 7 players on the board. Brooklyn Hoffman, however, was almost impossible to stop. The 7th grader scored 28 points, while the rest of the team combined for just 19 in the entire game, 13 from Lucy Paulsrud. They didn’t have the firepower, and the Mustangs were able to cruise to an 89-47 win.

Climax-Fisher falls to 7-17 on the year and will travel to Sacred Heart on Thursday.. Kelliher-Northome improves to 20-3 on the season.
