CLIMAX-FISHER VOLLEYBALL RALLIES AFTER LOSING OPENING SET TO BEAT WARREN-ALVARADO-OSLO

The Climax-Fisher Knights Volleyball team hosted the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo (WAO) Ponies on Thursday night in Climax. It was a great match with both teams going back and forth and each set being close. The Knights would come out on top and win the match in four sets (17-25, 25-19, 26-24, 26-24).

First Set
WAO got off to a great start scoring the first two points to take a 2-0 lead. The Ponies continued their strong play scoring five of the next seven capped off by a Reegan Mortimer kill to take a 7-2 lead and force a Knights timeout. The Ponies would rattle off four straight points after the timeout including an ace from Annika Magnusson. However, the Knights would go on a run of their own thanks to strong play in the middle from Peyton Hoffman. Hoffman would put together multiple blocks and kills to help Climax-Fisher pull back within four points at 14-10. The teams would trade a few points and eventually, the Ponies would re-extend their lead and force a Knights timeout in front 21-14. Once again coming off the timeout, it appeared as if the break helped the Ponies more than the Knights. WAO would score three of the next four settings themselves up with a set point. The Knights would fend off one set point, but follow it up with a service error giving the Ponies the opening set win 25-17.

Second Set
The Knights would get the opening point in the second set but the Ponies weren’t faced and rattled off six straight points with two kills from Kylie Nelson to take a 6-1 lead and force a Climax-Fisher timeout. Just like the first set, the Knights would respond and come all the way back scoring fourteen of the next twenty points to take a 15-12 lead and force a Ponies timeout. It was a balanced effort from the Knights to retake the lead. This time off the timeout, it was the Knights coming out on fire and scoring five straight after an initial Ponies point to take a 20-13 lead. Cambree Solheim led the way during the run for Climax-Fisher with two kills. The Ponies would fight back, but never get back within reach, and Hoffman would wrap the set up with a kill for a 25-19 Knights win to tie the match at 1 set a piece.

Third Set
Just like the first two sets, the third set featured a variety of runs. The Ponies would score the first three points before the Knights would respond with four of the next five to tie things at 4-4. From there the Knights would capitalize with strong play and storm in front 12-8 to have the edge. The Ponies would then score five straight of their own to go in front 13-12 and reclaim the lead. The teams continued to trade runs and the Knights right on cue would respond with a run of their own and pull ahead 21-16. It seemed as if hope was lost for the Ponies, but they would come all the way back and go in front 24-23 thanks to some Knights mistakes, giving themselves a set point. The Knights would fend off the set point and tie the match 24-24, and go one step farther scoring the next two and stealing the set 26-24 to pull ahead 2-1 with a chance to close things out in the fourth set.

Fourth Set
In the fourth set, the Ponies gave up the opening point before scoring nine of the next eleven to pull ahead 9-3 and force a Knights timeout. Aaliya Johnson led the way during the charge with two kills for WAO. The Knights once again were not phased and played extremely well to get themselves back in the set and continue cutting into the deficit. Eventually, the Knights would find themselves down 16-18 but would score four straight points capped off by an ace from Sarah Thoreson. That would force a Ponies timeout with the Knights in front 20-18. Climax-Fisher would continue to play well and would find themselves in front 24-21 with three match points. On all three, the Ponies would deliver and stay alive, tying the match at 24-24. However, the Knights would score the final two points on a service error and a mishit, and win the set 26-24, and take the match in four sets.

Climax-Fisher improves to 3-4 on the season. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo falls to 1-5.
