The Crookston Pirate Boy’s and Girl’s Track teams finished in first place out of eight teams at the Ada-Borup/West Invitational in the last track meet of the regular season. The Pirates will compete in the Sub-Section 31 Track Meet on June 3 in Thief River Falls.
BOYS –
The Crookston Pirate Boys had four first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes to win the boys division with 147 points, 13 points better than Park Christian. “It was a very good meet for us,” said Pirate Coach Wayne Folkers. “All the teams at the meet were similar in size. We have some good kids, we just lack depth.”
Crookston picked up some good points in the pole vault. “Andrew MacGregor and Gabe Montieth have been vaulting a little more regularly and got us some good points in the pole vault,” said Coach Folkers. “They had a great day.”
Ethan Boll ran in the first track meet of his career. “He is playing baseball and doing track and this is his first track meet,” said Coach Folkers. “He is figuring things out and had a second-place and a third-place and was on the first-place 4×100 relay.”
There were a lot of great performances for the boys. “Our 4×100 was solid today and Noah Kiel won the 200 and finished second in the 100,” said Coach Folkers. “Thor Harbott had a good race in the 3200 with a second-place finish and that was nice to see. Carter Coauette was solid today in the 400 meters, which he ran for the first time and he had a nice leg in the 4×800. There were a lot of higher places for us today.”
The Pirates will get ready for the Sub-section meet on Thursday, June 3. “It was a great way to wrap up the regular season and we are coming off a first-place finish and hopefully giving the guys a little more confidence,” said Coach Folkers. “I am excited to see how many guys we will advance to sections.”
GIRLS
The Crookston Pirate Girls had seven first-place finishes and six second-place finishes to win the girl’s division with 191.5 points, 41.5 points better than Park Christian. “It was a little cooler today which was good for running,” said
Breanna Kressin had an impressive performance in the 300-meter hurdles. “She ran her race in 45.71 seconds and that is pretty close to state qualifying time,” said Coach Boll. “That is great because if you are close to state qualifying time and that is an impressive time.” Kressin’s time of 45.71 is over a half-second faster than state-qualifying time!
Amelia Overgaard won the 1600 meter race (one mile). “She said she didn’t know who was behind her so she kept pushing,” said Coach Boll. “She finished strong and that was great to see.”
Cassie Solheim had a second-place finish and continues to get stronger. “Cassie is a good sprinter and is a great athlete and she came out with one of her better times this season,” said Coach Boll. “She is improving every week and it will be fun to see what she does next week.”
Kailee Magsam won the 400-meters and was on the second-place 4×400 relay team. “Kailee had a great meet and has been a force in the 400 meters and she ran a great leg in the relay,” said Coach Boll. “She seems to get stronger in every meet.”
Coach Boll said it was a great meet for the boys and girls. “I was proud of both the boys and girls teams finishing first,” said Coach Boll. “There were some strong runners and good to see some different athletes as we get ready for sub-sections.”
