Crookston Girls Basketball falls to Perham on the back of 13 Yellowjacket threes

The Crookston Pirate Girls’ Basketball team had no answer for the shooting of the Perham Yellowjackets, as they hit 13 3-pointers, 10 of which in the first half en route to a 68-41 victory on Tuesday night over the Pirates at Perham High School.

FIRST HALF –
Perham was able to set the tone early in the contest, as Kaia Anderson and Regan Hemberger each hit 3-pointers to give the Yellowjackets an early 6-0 lead. Anderson would add another 3-pointer before Joey Nesseth got the Pirates on the board with her first bucket of the night. In the next few minutes, Crookston was able to hang around and keep the lead at 7 all the way up until 17-10. From there, however, a sensational individual effort from Both Anderson and Hemberger propelled the Yellowjackets on a 16-0 run, with only Anderson and Hemberger scoring, to go up 33-10. Anderson had 6 threes in the first have and Hemberger had 4, and those two players combined for 38 of the teams’ 43 points in the first half. Those two, along with the rest of the team, were just as disruptive on defense, as they repeatedly caused turnovers which led to more scoring from them. Chloe Boll scored the final 6 Crookston points of the half to go along with 7 first half rebounds, but it was only enough to cut the score to 43-16 at the break.

SECOND HALF –
As the second half started, Perham changed their offensive approach. They took far less 3-pointers and consistently milked the shot clock to its final seconds on each possession. Crookston started to get a little more help offensively, as Joey Nesseth became a presence down low, with both of the Perham post players in foul trouble. Out of the 13 points she scored in the game, 11 of them came in the half. With Perham leading 54-25, Nesseth and Boll combined for a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 54-32. However, that would be the closest they would get as Perham got scoring from their bench, as 3 different bench players added to the offensive production. Although a few good things occurred, such as Chloe Boll getting a double-double and Alyssa Johnson scoring off the bench, but it was nowhere near enough as the Yellowjackets cruised to a 68-41 victory.

Crookston falls to 5-16 on the year and will take on TRF on Thursday. Perham improves to 11-8 on the year, winners of 7 of their last 8 games.
