CROOKSTON GIRLS SOCCER SHUT OUT BY EGF IN SECTION SEMI’S

The East Grand Forks Green Wave Girls Soccer team proved why they are ranked #9 in the state as they beat the Crookston Pirates by a score of 3-0.

FIRST HALF
East Grand Forks dominated early possession. In the fourth minute, East Grand Forks had two corner kicks, but Crookston was able to clear both. In the fifth minute, East Grand Forks’ Camryn Adams took a shot from the top of the box, ricocheted off the far post, and went into the net to give the Green Wave a 1-0 lead.
East Grand Forks continued to dominate possession, but Crookston started to make some defensive plays. Swanson had a save in the sixth minute, and Keona Arnold made an excellent clear. In the 10th minute, East Grand Forks’ Maggey Plante had a beautiful shot from about 15 yards that went just over the hands of Swanson for the Green Wave’s second goal of the game, giving them a 2-0 lead.
East Grand Forks continued to pressure the Crookston goal for the next three minutes. In the 15th minute, Crookston got some offense going when Katelyn Christensen had a good through pass, but the East Grand Forks keeper, Shali Nelson, scooped it up before the Pirates got a shot off. Crookston had a corner kick two minutes later, but it was saved before the Pirates got a shot off.
East Grand Forks began to dominate possession for the next five minutes, but Crookston got a chance when Cassie Solheim took a shot from about 20 yards out, but the keeper Nelson made the save. The Green Wave went back on the offensive, and Swanson made two saves in the 27th minute, including one where she slid right in front of an East Grand Forks attacker. Swanson made another sliding save about five minutes later. The last seven minutes saw mostly East Grand Forks possession until Crookston got a free kick in the final minute of the half. They could not get a shot off, and East Grand Forks almost took the other way to make it 3-0, but Swanson made another marvelous play to clear it and keep it a 2-0 game at the end of the first half.

SECOND HALF
East Grand Forks dominated possession at the beginning of the second half. Swanson saved three shots in the first seven minutes to continue her strong game. In the 51st minute, East Grand Forks had a centering pass near the Pirate goal, but Arnold made another great clear to save a potential goal, and a shot on the subsequent Green Wave corner kick was saved by Swanson.
East Grand Forks continued to dominate possession. They had free kicks in the 52nd and 54th minute, but neither resulted in a goal. The Green Wave had two corner kicks in the 56th and 58th minute. Crookston kept them out of the goal. Halfway through the second half, the Pirates had a chance when Kingsley Wangen received a pass from Solheim, but she was barely offsides, and East Grand Forks got a free kick.
East Grand Forks continued to pressure the Pirate goal with two shots in the 62nd minute that both went wide and another in the 63rd that Swanson saved. In the 64th minute, Adams received a pass from Lauren Kronlund, and Adams took an excellent shot from 20 yards out and scored to give the Green Wave a 3-0 lead.
East Grand Forks continued to dominate possession for the rest of the half. Swanson continued to make great saves, including one in the 67th minute. Arnold had another tremendous clear in the 72nd minute to save a possible goal. Swanson made one last highlight play when she slid for a save right in front of two Green Wave attackers. East Grand Forks cruised the rest of the way and won the match by a score of 3-0.

Crookston finishes their season 5-8-3. East Grand Forks improves to 13-2-1 on the season and heads to the Section 8A championship game.
