CROOKSTON GIRL’S SWIMMING FALLS IN DUAL AT PARK RAPIDS

The shorthanded Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team ran into a very good and deep Park Rapids Panther team and lost 108 to 36 in a dual at the Park Rapids High School Pool.  “Park Rapids is a very good team and the girls might have been a little intimidated,” said Coach Marley Melbye.  Park Rapids Coach Todd Fritze told KROX that his team swam well, “I thought we swam well today.  With the season modified we really have to find kids to swim certain events quicker than normal. Every team is like that. We encourage our kids to keep working hard and good things happen.”

Crookston didn’t win a race in the dual and Mackenzie Aamoth was the only Pirate to have a second-place finish.   Aamoth finished second in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:16.43. “I was really happy with Mackenzie’s race,” said Coach Hanson. “That is her fastest race in the regular season she has ever had.  Her race was flawless.”

The Pirates had two third-place finishes with Mackenzie Aamoth, Naomi Olson, Victoria Proulx, and Claire Oman racing in the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays. “It was a tough day for the girls,” said Coach Melbye.  After finding out we were going to have sections we worked the girls hard in practice yesterday so we saw some times go up.  It also could have been some nerves too.  Park Rapids is a very good team and they showed that today.”

Crookston will host another top Section 8A team on Thursday when they host the Detroit Lakes Lakers at the Crookston Community Pool.  The meet will be live video streamed on KROXAM.com, and the KROX Youtube channel starting at about 5:15 p.m.
