CROOKSTON GIRL’S TENNIS BESTS ROSEAU AND EGF

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis team continues its stellar start to the season as they beat the Roseau Rams by a score of 7-0 and the East Grand Forks Green Wave by a score of 4-3 in a pair of Section 8A matchups at the Crookston High School tennis courts.

CROOKSTON VS ROSEAU
Crookston started the match with an impressive victory at the first singles match, with Isabelle Smith making quick work of her opponent as she coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 victory to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Kaylie Clauson had no problems in her second singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.
Addie Fee and Morgan Nelson finished about the same time as Clauson and also cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory for a 3-0 lead.
Georgia Sanders continued the Pirate winning ways as she played a solid match at fourth singles and coasted to a 6-0, 6-3 victory to solidify the team victory for a 4-0 lead.
Coral Brekken and Calleigh Fanfulik had a great battle at third doubles. They won the first set 6-3, and lost the second set 2-6 before winning the third set 10-4. Fanfulik has played to a third set tie-breaker in all four of her matches so far this season.
Paige Abrahamson took care of business in her third singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to give the Pirates a 6-0 lead.
Crookston completed the sweep when Brekken Tull and Emma Gunderson won their first doubles match and a solid back-and-forth battle with a lot of long points in a 6-3, 6-1 victory for a 7-0 team victory.

CROOKSTON VS EAST GRAND FORKS
Crookston started the match with an impressive victory from the second doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Addie Fee as they made quick work of their match in a 6-0, 6-1 victory giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The next three matches were won by East Grand Forks with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at
both first and second singles. The Green Wave also won at fourth singles by a 6-1, 6-2 score to take a 3-1 lead.
Crookston’s Emma Gunderson and Isabelle Smith dominated their first doubles match with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory to bring the Pirates within a 3-2 deficit.
The Pirates continued their comeback as Paige Abrahamson earned a big win in her third singles match, 6-4, 6-3, to tie the team score at 3-3.
It all came down to the third doubles match featuring Coral Brekken and Calleigh Fanfulik. The Pirate duo won the first set 6-2, before winning a tight back-and-forth battle in the second set by a 7-5 score to win the match and give Crookston a big 4-3 victory.

Crookston improves to 5-0 on the year and will host the Crookston Invitational on Saturday.
