CROOKSTON GRAND THEATRE HOLDING 10TH ANNUAL FREE HALLOWEEN MOVIE ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT

To celebrate Halloween this year, the Crookston Grand Theatre is holding its 10th Annual Free Halloween Movie on Monday, October 31, where it will show two Halloween movies, one at 7:00 p.m. and the other at 9:30 p.m.

The theatre hasn’t revealed the movies they will show to keep them a surprise for the watchers, but the manager Bo Brorby has reported that both are relatively new movies that no one has seen on the big screen yet. The first movie will be a Family Halloween movie, showing at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Scary Halloween movie being shown at 9:30 p.m. for more mature audiences. With the movie, the theater will have its concession stand open with special deals available for the movie. “We always have some good specials on Halloween,” Brorby explained. “We’re going to have $2 ICEES along with our $2 popcorn, so even if you don’t come to the movie, you can feel free to stop in to get a nice Halloween special on our concessions.” Other available concessions include candy, soda, and more.

With the theme of Halloween, the theater is holding its annual Halloween costume contest for the children coming in from trick-or-treating, and the staff is giving awards to the best and most creative costumes they see. “We kind of have a rating schedule, we look at everyone’s costumes and look for the most creativity and uniqueness, and we can tell when some people put a lot of time into their costumes,” Brorby explained. “We have one family where they do an awesome face-painting on their costumes every year, and they usually win a prize, so we look at everyone’s costumes, and anyone we feel put in the effort can win.” The main winner will receive a $20 gift card to the Grand Theatre, but contestants can also win movie passes and smaller gift cards for their costumes.

With the school year in full swing and depending on the income of new movies, the theater has plans to hold more special and family movie events for the remainder of the year and even a bit into 2023. “Depending on our movie release schedule, we may hold another event in November, with a Thanksgiving-themed movie, depending on our release schedule,” Brorby explained. “But for sure, in December, we will have our free Christmas movie with Santa during one of the first weekends in December.” While the theatre doesn’t have any concrete dates yet, it is planning for other family movies and community events in the winter and spring.

The 10th Annual Free Halloween Movie event will be held in the Crookston Grand Theatre on Monday, October 31, with the family movie beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the scary movie playing at 9:30 p.m. Normal movie showtimes begin at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m., with many new family movies and other movies coming in over the next couple of weeks. If you would like to plan a private event at the Grand Theatre, you can call them at 218-281-1820.
