The Crookston Pirates boys’ soccer team was no match for the Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy Comets as they fell 14-0 on the road in Fergus Falls on Tuesday.
FIRST HALF –
From start to finish, the Comets were in complete control of the contest. They scored their first goal five minutes in on a bardown shot from Pedro Pereira, and that set the tone early. Overall, the Comets scored eleven goals in the half from eight different scorers, and three times the Comets scored twice with the span of 60 seconds. Ten of their eleven goals in the half came off of an assist, showcasing their passing skills. Pirate goalkeeper Colton Osborn still made ten saves in the half, but the Pirates were unable to get a shot on goal, and the Comets retained the 11-0 lead into the second half.
SECOND HALF –
In the second half, though the pace slowed down, the Comets got a goal within the first seven minutes from Jakob Vindenes, making him the fourth Comet to have multiple goals on the day. Reserves got more time for the Comets, and the Pirates took advantage of this by getting a couple shots on goal, but they were saved by Comet goalkeeper William Selvig. The Comets got two more goals scattered throughout the rest of the half, and that allowed them to cruise to a 14-0 victory.
Crookston drops to 1-1 on the season, while Hillcrest Academy improves to 3-0.
