The Crookston Pirates boys‘ soccer team played an extremely competitive game but just fell short in EGF on Thursday as the Green Wave held on to win 3-1.
FIRST HALF –
In the first half, the Pirates came out with energy and intensity, challenging the Green Wave defense and getting two looks at the net in the first few minutes, which were stopped. As the half approached the midway point, the Green Wave began to shift momentum and put pressure on the Pirate defense. This would work, as a couple clear attempts would go awry, leading the Green Wave to score twice in a brief span to take a 2-0 lead. The Pirates would not get another shot on goal for the rest of the half, but they successfully kept the Green Wave away from scoring again, keeping the score at 2-0 headed into the half.
SECOND HALF –
Similar to the first half, the Pirates came out with aggressiveness and intensity to start the second half, and they began to create more opportunities on offense. This all culminated to an opportunity for Masen Lessard, and he made it count, scoring a goal to cut the lead down to 2-1. However, just like the first time these two teams played, the Green Wave had an answer, and they were able to score right back, increasing the lead to 3-1. The Pirates continued to add pressure to the Green Wave defense, but were unable to find the back of the net again, and the Green Wave were able to head on to a 3-1 victory.
Crookston drops to 1-6 on the season, while EGF improves to 2-5-2, both victories coming against the Pirates.
