The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team won three of four singles matches and two of three doubles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over the Thief River Falls Prowlers in a Section 8A match played at the Crookston High School tennis courts.

Crookston got off to a great start by winning the first two matches as Ean Deleon used great serving to defeat Jackson Larson in fourth singles in a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Gunnar Groven took down Anthony Larson in impressive fashion with a 6-1, 6-0 victory to give the Pirates a quick 2-0 lead.
Grant Funk got down 3-1 in the first set in second singles, but came back to win the set 6-4 and used that momentum to cruise to a 6-1 victory in the second set for a big 3-0 lead in the match.
The only singles player for the Pirates to fall was Reggie Winjum, who got a tough draw against a very good Jett Cornelius and fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, two of the matches went to a super tiebreak. The second doubles team of Sawyer Anderson and Colton Osborn cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win.
In first doubles, Sam Widseth and Hudson Rick dropped the first set 6-4, but stormed back to win the second set easily 6-1. In the super tiebreak, or race to 10, the Pirate duo won 10-8 to win the match.
The third doubles team of Jacob Halvorsen and Marshall Hanson won the first set 6-4, but were unable to hold the lead, and would fall in the second set 6-3. The super tiebreak was another thriller as the TRF duo outlasted the Pirates to win 10-8, but it didn’t matter as Crookston won the match 5-2.
Crookston improves to 3-1 on the year and will take on Detroit Lakes on Friday.
