The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team beat the Detroit Lakes Lakers 6-1 in a hard-fought match played in Detroit Lakes.
Crookston swept the singles matches, with Reggie Winjum winning first singles in three sets. After losing the first set, Reggie bounced back to win the next two sets by 6-3 scores.
At second singles, Grand Funk won another battle. The first set was tied at 6-6, forcing a tie-break and Grant won the tie-breaker in a nailbiter 7-5. In the second set, Funk pulled away for a 6-3 victory.
Gunnar Groven won a three-set match at third singles. He lost the first set. Gunnar bounced back with a huge 7-5 victory in the second set. He used the big second-set victory to catapult him to a 6-0 victory in the third set.
Sam Widseth continued his stellar play at fourth singles as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 to complete the sweep of the singles matches.
Crookston won the first doubles match in two sets, but it was another hard-fought win for the Pirates as Jack Everett and Hudson Rick won the first set. The second set was a battle as they were tied at 6-6, forcing a tie-break. Everett and Rick won the tie-break 8-6 to win the match.
The third doubles teams showed how deep the Pirates are as they cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Crookston improves to 6-5 on the year and will travel to Moorhead on Tuesday.
