The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team wraps up a busy week by playing three matches in the Alexandria quadrangular with matches against Osakis, Alexandria, and Detroit Lakes. The Pirates beat Osakis 5-2, beat Detroit Lakes 6-1 and lost to Alexandria 4-3. “We had a great day of tennis today,” said Pirate Coach Gina Gunderson.”
CROOKSTON VS OSAKIS –
Crookston started the day playing a very good Osakis team and came away with a 5-2 victory.
Osakis had two outstanding singles players at first and second singles and they won both matches by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Crookston showed off their depth as they won the remaining five matches with four of the matches in straight sets.
At third singles, Emma LaPlante won a battle winning the first set 6-4 before winning the second set 6-3. Fourth singles was the best match of the first round as Emelia Hoerner won a marathon three-setter. Emelia lost the first set 6-4, but bounced back to win the second set 6-3. In the third set, the two battled back-and-forth and Hoerner outlasted her opponent and won 13-11.
All three doubles teams won their matches in impressive fashion. The first doubles team of Addie Fee and Kaylie Clauson cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. The second doubles team of Ashlyn Bailey and Georgia Sanders coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The third doubles team of Chloe Boll and Logan Brekken also rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. “We knew they were strong in singles so we knew the doubles matches were important,” said Coach Gunderson. “That was a nice win.”
Crookston improves to 7-1 on the year, while Osakis drops to 9-2.

CROOKSTON VS ALEXANDRIA –
Crookston won a three set match and lost a three set match and came up short in a 4-3 loss to the Alexandria Cardinals in the second match of the day. Alexandria won three of the four singles matches with the lone Pirate win coming at third singles with Emelia Hoerner cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Crookston’s first doubles team of Kaylie Clauson and Addie Fee continued their solid play as they coasted to a 6-2, 6-3 victory. The second doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Emma LaPlante won a three-set battle. They lost the first set 6-2, but came back strong to win the second seet 6-4. In the third set, they came up with some big points and won 10-5 to pick up the victory.
The third doubles team of Chloe Boll and Logan Brekken also played a great match. They lost the first set 6-4 before winning a thriller in the second set 7-6. In the third set, they came up short and lost 10-3. “We were missing one of our players and other girls stepped up and played a great match,” said Coach Gunderson. “The girls all played well and we saw some good tennis.”

CROOKSTON vs DETROIT LAKES-
Crookston won three of the four singles matches and swept the doubles on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Detroit Lakes Lakers in the third and final match of the day.
Kaylie Clauson won her first singles match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. At second singles, Addie Fee won her match 6-4, 6-4 for her 75th career victory. Pairge Abrahamson cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory at third singles.
The first doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Ava Martin won their first set in a marathon 7-6 before winning the second set 6-0.
The second doubles team of Logan Brekken and Emma LaPlante lost their first set 6-4, but bounced back to easily win the second set 6-0. In the third set, they won 10-4.
The third doubles team of Emelia Hoerner and Lucy Smith cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 victory for the six wins. “The girls played well and we were able to play some girls in different spots,” said Coach Gunderson. “Our girls are so versatile and so many can play both singles and doubles and they showed that today. It was a great day of tennis with a lot of good matches. The girls played great today.”
Crookston improves to 10-3 on the year and will host Moorhead and Thief River Falls on Tuesday in Crookston.
