SACRED HEART 15-RUN RULES CROOKSTON PIRATE SOFTBALL IN SEASON OPENER

The Sacred Heart Eagles scored five runs while only recording one hit in the top of the first inning and cruised the rest of the way for a 15-0 victory in four innings over the Crookston Pirate Softball team in a game played at Donnie Lauf Field behind Highland School in Crookston.

In the top of the first inning, Lilly Zimprich hit a hard ground ball to the right side of the infield and reached on an error to start the game.  The next Sacred Heart batter, Bella Hass reached on a fielders choice and Courtney Vatnsdal walked to load the bases.  Ella Walter singled in two runs and the Eagles batted 10 in the top of the first inning and added three more runs to take a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, Crookston got a two-out rally going when Jasmin Hanson reached on an error and Jenna Coauette doubled down the right-field line before the next Pirate batter struck out and the Pirate threat was over.
In the top of the second inning, Sacred Heart loaded the bases with a walk, hit batter and another walk and two runs would score for a 7-0 Eagle lead.
Crookston didn’t have a hit in the bottom of the second and Sacred Heart added a run after Lilly Grossbauer walked and later scored on a Walters ground out for an 8-0 lead through the top of the third inning.
Crookston had another threat in the bottom of the third inning when Jasmin Hanson and Jenna Coauette singled, but the next batter struck out and Crookston trailed 8-0 after three innings.
Sacred Heart really broke the game open in the top of the fourth inning by scoring eight runs while taking advantage of four walks, two hits, and two Crookston errors and led 15-0.  Crookston needed to score one run to keep the game going, but they were retired in 1-2-3 fashion and Sacred Heart won the game 15-0 in four innings after the 15-run rule.
Crookston drops to 0-1 on the year and will travel to East Grand Forks Senior High to play the Green Wave on Thursday.  Sacred Heart improves to 1-1 on the year.
