The City of Crookston, Crookston Park and Rec, Crookston Area Community Fund, and the Northwest Minnesota Foundation are teaming up to have a Crookston Sports Center open house on Wednesday, May 20.
The public is invited to the open house for the ultimate showcase of fun at the Crookston Sports Center, with inflatables (bouncy house), volleyball, basketball, tennis, soccer, the ice skating treadmill, batting cage display, Park and Rec signup, and concessions will be available. “How this came about is we wanted to create an event that serves as a welcoming opportunity for the community as a whole to check out all the recent improvements if you haven’t been out there in a while and a chance to get families out to be able to have a fun night out to be able to check out all the amenities,” said City of Crookston Marketing Director Keenan Devier. “This event also serves as a thank you to the Crookston Area Community Fund, the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, and all of our community donors and organizations for your support. Support in the success of the Crookston sports center. Cause a lot of this wouldn’t be made possible without a strong community to be able to back us up on it.”
The Crookston Sports Center has seen several additions over the years thanks to the Legacy Fund, the Crookston Area Community Fund, the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, and many other clubs and businesses.
Rydell Auto Group has made donations to develop more children’s play spaces. The Crookston Area Community Fund matched donations for the Crookston wall murals and inclusive play items. Early Childhood Initiative began the vision for the climbing play area, and UMC’s Early Childhood department, along with the RiverView Health Rehab Department, advised on the design and selection of inclusive toys in the new play area.
There will be something for everyone at the Crookston Sports Center Open House. “We wanted to basically pack the house with fun activities around every corner. You know, we have a lot of the new younger kids’ activities in the warming house,” said Devier. “We have some new activities up there for younger kids. And then we also have the little playground in the corner. So basically there’s something to do for kids of all ages.”
Devier wanted to thank all the people who had a hand in making the Crookston Sports Center a reality many years ago, and those who have continued to help upgrade the facility. “A big thank you for a strong community like Crookston that saw the opportunity to bring the Crookston Sports Center to life,” said Devier. “And this event is for you guys to be able to come out and enjoy all the hard work that has gone into the sports center over the years. And just we’re looking forward to having everyone out there.”
The Crookston Sports Center Open House will be on Wednesday, May 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The CSC address is 801 Fisher Avenue.
