CROOKSTON YOUTH HOCKEY REPORT

The youth hockey season is in full swing and the Crookston Blue Line Club has a youth hockey update.  The teams and updates are below –

SQUIRT A
The Squirt A’s have had a great start to the season! They started with a home opener series the weekend of 11/16, defeating all 3 of their opponents: East Grand Forks (5-2); Fergus Falls (10-1); and Fargo Angels (13-2). After Thanksgiving, they came out strong on Saturday with another win at home against May-Port (5-0). Sunday they traveled to Roseau where they again came out on top, battling to a final score of 8-5. The boys are excited to travel to Monticello this upcoming weekend to battle for the ‘Moose Cup’!!
Player of the Week – Greyson Ecker

SQUIRT B
Our Crookston Squirt B team played their hearts out on Sunday with a doubleheader against the EGF Squirt B Black and Green teams. Although the outcome of those games did not end in our favor this time, those kids gave it their all with shining moments of teamwork and even a few celebratory goals!! They are learning to play together and grow as a team! Can’t wait to see how they progress throughout this season!!
Player of the week – Jace Bruggeman

10U
The Crookston 10UB Girls kicked off their season with a home game on Friday, against East Grand Forks. The game ended in a loss of 4-6, with goals scored by Emma LaPlante (2) and Logan Brekken (2). Saturday, the girls traveled to Bemidji for a couple of games, as well as a team lunch and a visit to Paul & Babe! Against the Bemidji 10UB team, they won 11-2, and against the Bemidji 10UA team, they lost 0-10. Scoring for the day, for Crookston were Alexa Bartrum (2), Mya Bower (2), Emma LaPlante (2), Claire McDonald (1), Adelia Weiland (1), Logan Brekken (1), Emmi Trostad (1), and Ava Martin (1). The team played well defensively, and passed the puck well to tally those goals for the win. The girls will be playing in the Breezy Point Tournament this upcoming weekend.
Player of the week – Natalie Longoria

PEEWEE A
Congratulations to Ty Larson being named the Pee Wee A player of the week! Ty capped off a tough northern road swing by scoring 5 goals in Sunday’s win over Baudette. Ty’s willingness to play multiple positions allowed our team to put up a strong fight against Roseau and Warroad, two traditional powerhouses.

PEEWEE B
Friday the PeeWee B’s played very well, our best game of the season, unfortunately, we lost a heartbreaker in overtime in EGF. On Saturday we played at home against Roseau and we came out of the gates hard and were up 2-1 halfway through the 2nd period but they were able to jump ahead on us and win 6-2. On Sunday we played Moorhead at home and we were able to get some kids to try some different positions, the score was not in our favor but I think the kids like to learn new positions and still had some fun.
Player of the Week is Weston Benoit he scored his first ever goal this weekend and has come along way in his first year of hockey. He is truly an inspiration for any kid out there that wants to join hockey later than normal. His work ethic and drive are fun to watch, keep it up Weston!

12U
The 12U girls started their season off strong by winning their first three games – Northern Lakes 6-3, Brainerd 3-1, and West Fargo 4-2. The girls worked hard and played well as a team. Thanksgiving weekend, the 12U participated in the Grand Forks Angels Tournament and had 2 wins against Williston and GF Wild and 2 loses against Fargo Freeze and Winnipeg Titans.
This upcoming weekend the 12U will host Warroad and Moorhead on Saturday and travel to EGF on Sunday.
Player of the week – Reese Swanson

BANTAM B
The Crookston Bantam’s have had four games this season — Nov 17 they beat Park Rapids 6-3; Nov 18 lost 4-1 to a relentless Fargo Angels A-team; Nov 24 lost 4-1 to Bemidji B1 and later that day lost again 4-1 to tough, size-able Mayville-Portland A-team. So far this season, goals have gone to Alex Longoria (6), Blaine Andringa (1), Nathan Kelly (1), Zach Johnson (1); assists Drake Lord (2), Zachary Tahran (1); and goalie Jaren Bailey has saved 235 shots. Coming up this weekend they travel to EGF on Friday (7:45p, Civic), and will have two home games Saturday vs Roseau (12p) and Moorhead B1 (5:15p)
