Dennis L. Chappuis – Obit

Dennis Leonard Chappuis, 79, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Thursday morning, March 10, 2022, at the Benedictine Living Community Crookston with his family at his side.

Denny was born on August 24, 1942 in Crookston, the son of Leonard and Grace (Raymond) Chappuis. He was baptized and confirmed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, attended Cathedral School through the 9th grade, and then Central High School where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1960. Denny soon moved to Seattle, WA where he was employed by Safeway Foods for several years. He had 2 children from a first marriage while living there, Dennis and Lorie. In 1970 he relocated to Minneapolis to work at Hove’s Grocery. He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Zieglmeier on August 22, 1970 in North Minneapolis. A year later they came to Crookston where together they would raise their 3 children: Nicole, Cassandra, and Lenny, while Denny began working as a department manager for the Red Owl Store. He later began employment as a department manager at Leever’s Grocery, remaining there until retirement. At the same time during those years Denny served as apartment landlord for the Nimens-Espegaard complex and several other apartments in Crookston.

Denny was a faithful member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish. He was devoted to Carol Ann and their family and very proud of their accomplishments. Among his favorite pastimes he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.

Denny is survived by Carol Ann, his beloved wife of 51 years; 4 children: Dennis (Deena) Iverson of Desert Aire, WA, Nicole (Jay) Frenzel of Northome, MN, Cassandra Chappuis of Fargo, ND, and Lenny Chappuis of Crookston, MN; 11 grandchildren: Justin, Allyson, Daniel, Kimberly, Jason, Chris, Heaven, Trinity, Destiny, Serenity, and Zachary; and a great-grandson, Maverick. Denny also leaves 3 siblings: Donna Nelson and Deborah (Randy) Berggan, all of Fargo, and Doreen (Rick) Langlois of Gentilly, MN; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorie Chappuis; his parents, Leonard and Grace; and 3 siblings: Diane (Rick) Hoff, Duane (Terry) Chappuis, and Darlene (Ron) Paulson. Blessed be the memory of Dennis Leonard Chappuis.

A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Denny Chappuis will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with The Rev. Joe Richards, presiding. Visitation will be at the Cathedral on Friday from 12 Noon until 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston, in the spring.
