District 2 Primary highlights 2026 election ballot following candidate filing period in Polk County

The Polk County candidate filing period concluded on June 2. Here is the list of candidates who filed for county office.

Commissioner District 2- Douglas Cariveau, Leonard Vonasek, and Curtis Knutson filed to run for this position, as Warren Strandell will not seek re-election. This race will be on the August 11th Primary ballot, and the top 2 will move onto the General in November.

Commissioner District 4- Mike Weden and Dennis Boucher filed to run for this position, as current District 4 Commissioner Joan Lee will not seek re-election.

County Sheriff- Polk County Chief Deputy Mike Norland is running for election unopposed. Sheriff James Tadman previously announced his retirement at the end of his current term.

County Attorney- Current County Attorney Greg Widseth is running for re-election unopposed.

East Polk Soil & Water Conservation District 1: Elizabeth Davis is running for election unopposed.

East Polk Soil & Water Conservation District 2: David Kiecker is running for re-election unopposed.

West Polk Soil & Water Conservation District 1: Eric McWalter is running for re-election unopposed.

West Polk Soil & Water Conservation District 3: Jonathan Sorenson is running for re-election unopposed.

The 2026 primary election is August 11, and the 2026 general election is November 3.
