Donna Alta Marie (Johnson) Lien was born July 14, 1942, to Boyd and Dorothy (Voltz) Johnson in Hillsboro, North Dakota. Blessed be the memory of Donna Lien. After moving to the Flom, MN area, Donna attended elementary school in Flom, and finished school in Twin Valley. It was during this time she met her best friend. On May 10, 1959, she was united in marriage to Gerald F. Lien in Moorhead, MN. Together they made their home on the family farm in rural Flom, where she and Gerald raised three children, Gerri, Debbie and David. Together, Donna and Gerald began their farming operation. During the early years, they milked the cows morning and night and she helped with the fieldwork when able to. In 1971, Donna and Gerald purchased Fran’s Diner in Moorhead, MN and while Gerald continued the farm operation, Donna ran the diner for 6 years, commuting back and forth every weekend. They sold the diner within the family and moved back to the farm full time where she continued to work alongside Gerald until retiring in 2007. Donna was active in the Aspelund Lutheran Church and the Flom Community Club. She was also a board member of the Moving Flom Forward organization. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery, cross-stitching, reading, and of course, gardening. Donna also enjoyed traveling – Medora was a special place for her and Gerald. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she loved following all of her grandchildren’s activities.
