EAST GRAND FORKS BEATS SACRED HEART EAGLE GIRLS BASKETBALL 75-59

The Sacred Heart Eagle Girls Basketball kept it close in the first half, but East Grand Forks pulled away in the second half as the Green Wave beat the Eagles by a score of 75-59 in a game played at Sacred Heart High School.

FIRST HALF-
East Grand Forks started the game on an 8-0 run, with three-pointers from Maya Langerud and Tatem Votava. Sacred Heart responded by scoring nine of the following 11 points, including a three-pointer and a tough drive for a lay-up from Lydia Riskey, to make it 10-9 East Grand Forks 5:30 into the half.
The Green Wave’s Ellie Marcott completed an and-one before Riskey hit a long two, and Lexi Lawrence used a spin move to drive in for a lay-up, tying the game up at 15-15 at 7:30 into the half. East Grand Forks responded with an Alison Kovar three-pointer to make it 18-15. Lexi Lawrence hit a floater to make it 18-17 before a pair of free throws and a lay-up from Votave made it 22-17. Isabel Vonesh made a three-pointer for the Eagles before the Green Wave went on a 5-0 run, including a three-pointer by Kylee Mattison, to make it 27-20 East Grand Forks with 8:30 to go in the half.
It was back and forth for the next few minutes before Lawrence hit a two to cut the deficit to 31-28 Green Wave. Mattison hit a three-pointer for East Grand Forks to make it 34-28, then she hit a lay-up to make it 36-30 with 1:20 left in the half. Lawrence hit a lay-up for Sacred Heart, and Riskey made a pair of free throws to end the half on a 4-0 run for the Eagles as the teams went into halftime with the score 36-34 East Grand Forks.

SECOND HALF –
East Grand Forks started the second half on a 5-0 run, including a lay-up from Votava before Sacred Heart’s Lawrence made a lay-up, and Riskey hit a long two to make it 41-38 in the first two minutes of the half. 2:30 into the half, East Grand Forks began a 6-0 run, including a three from Kovar and a successful and-one from Mya Langerud to make it 49-40 Green Wave.
The following two minutes were back and forth, with Sacred Heart’s Riskey and Vonesh hitting jumpers to make it 53-46. East Grand Forks responded with an 8-0 run, including a three-pointer and a lay-up from Votava, to make it 61-46 midway through the second half.
Sacred Heart’s Finley Horken had a nice drive and a lay-up to make it 61-48 before the next two minutes were back-and-forth. Lawrence made a jumper to make it 55-65, and East Grand Fork’s Votava had a putback fall to make it 67-55. Lawrence scored the following four points off free throws, which brought Sacred Heart’s total to 21 out of 22 free throws made before the Green Wave scored the last six points of the game to win 75-59.

Sacred Heart falls to 4-1 on the season and hosts Norman County East/Ulen Hitterdahl on Thursday. East Grand Forks improves to 6-2 and hosts Perham tomorrow.
