Edward “Ed” Dahle – OBIT

Edward “Ed” Dahle, 85, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Riverview Health in Crookston, MN surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral service for Ed will be held 4:00 PM on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Jonathan Dodson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Edward Irvin Dahle, born May 27, 1939, in Milbank, South Dakota, passed away surrounded by loved ones. He was the son of Irvin Dahle and Ruth Ennis and was raised in Marietta, Minnesota. Edward graduated from Marietta High School in 1957, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to study art and music at St. Cloud State University.

On June 11, 1960, Edward married Joanne Graphenteen in Marietta, Minnesota. Together, they built a loving family with five daughters: Darla, Janeen, Michelle, Rebecca, and Amy. He has four son-in-laws that truly were more like his sons- Tim, Jay, Ralph and Kraig.  Edward began his teaching career in Bellingham, Minnesota, where he also drove a school bus. He later taught in Red Lake before settling in Red Lake Falls in 1966. There, he served as the high school band director until his retirement in 1981. In addition to teaching, Edward drove school buses for many years and operated the Barn Café in Red Lake Falls for about a decade.

Ed also had other jobs with Thrivent and MSEA and worked as a rural mail carrier.

Edward was deeply involved in his community through organizations like The Lions, Volunteer Ambulance, Community Band and Barbershop Quartet. A dedicated sports enthusiast, he officiated various sporting events and attended countless games to support his children and grandchildren. He loved to fish, play cards and do puzzles.  He was happiest when his house was full of people.  He cherished his time at Bethany Lutheran Church’s men’s Bible study and enjoyed coffee gatherings with friends at Memories Café. He loved his daily chats with his “brother” Jimmy G., sometimes they were quite involved in solving world problems. 

Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joanne; daughters Darla Dahle, Janeen (Tim) Brule, Michelle (Jay) Martell, Rebecca (Ralph) Landman, and Amy (Kraig) Fontaine; grandchildren Sarah (Alex) Rudnik, Samuel (Callan) Brule, Brandon (Brittany) Martell, Nicholas (Chelsey) Martell, Alexander (Miranda) Martell, Tyler (Dana) Landman, Rachel (Luke) Landman, Tanner Landman, Kassandra Fontaine, Kamden Fontaine; and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Annabelle Rudnik, Darby Martell, Kinsley, Everley, and Brenley Martell, Maddison, Bodin, and Logan Landman. He is also survived by sisters Patricia Harstad and Carol Upton; in-laws Vicki (Blaine) Miller, Harlan (Cheryl) Graphenteen, Tami (Lee) Delgado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law Kenneth Harstad, William Upton, Verlon Graphenteen; sister-in-law Dianne and Janice Graphenteen; and parents-in-law Pearl and Albert Graphenteen.

Edward will be remembered for his love of people, his unwavering support of family and friends, and his appreciation for life’s simple joys. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. Always remember the word LOVE.
