Ellen A. (Anderson) Homme – OBIT

Ellen A. (Anderson) Homme, 68, of Crookston, MN, passed away Thursday morning, April 18, 2024, in her home with her loving family by her side, following a long and courageous battle with a debilitating spinal disease.

Ellen was born in Crookston on August 1, 1955, the daughter of Lawrence and Orral (Hoglund) Anderson.  She began her education in the Crookston elementary schools and graduated with the Class of 1973 from Crookston Central High School.  She married Steven Homme in Thief River Falls in 1974, and later graduated from Thief River Falls Community College.

Ellen was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years, active in WELCA, and served as the secretary of the church council.

Ellen had a long career in the legal field, working at the Dickel Et al. Law Firm in Crookston, and as a paralegal specializing in elder law at a Minneapolis law firm.   She also managed a Cenex operation in Rapid City, South Dakota, for a few years, until deciding to return to Minnesota to work again in the field of law.

Ellen’s passion was cooking and baking and her family will miss her awesome meals (especially the cheesecake).  She was always empathetic to the unfortunate, willing to give the shirt off her back, or a free meal, or just offering to be there for a talk.  She always pulled for the underdog.  Ellen’s wit and sense of humor was invigorating – and she could always make you laugh.

One of the most important things in life for Ellen was her family, and she will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, Sarah Homme of Crookston and Matthew Homme (Leann Gust) of Gatzke, MN; grandchildren: Chelsey Homme of Greeley, Colorado, Dayle Dahlin of East Grand Forks, MN, and Luke Homme of Viking, MN; brother, Robert J. (Barb) Anderson of Crookston; and sister, Judith Anderson (Tony Delmedico) of Crookston; nephews: Aaron Anderson of St. Paul, Martin (Mary) Anderson of Crookston, Steffen (Kaley) Anderson of Cavalier, ND, and Jeremy “Jay” Amiot of Crookston; along with many cousins.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Orral Anderson; husband, Steven Homme; and nephew, Darin Amiot.

Ellen’s life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service to be held at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on her birthday, Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior. The service will be livestreamed by going to Ellen’s obituary age at www.stenshoelhouske.com and clicking on the prompt to view.

A special thanks from the family to Hospice of the Red River Valley for the excellent care given to Ellen during her last days.
