Esmeralda Celeste Fuentes, age 16, of Crookston, Minnesota, died on September 20, 2021, in Crookston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 24 ,2021, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Crookston, with a time of gathering an hour prior. A visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 23, at the Cathedral, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.
Esmeralda was born on October 23, 2004, to Jose Fuentes and Yaneth Meyo, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She attended Crookston High School as a junior. Esmeralda liked playing basketball and played for the Crookston Pirates during her freshman year. She also enjoyed skateboarding, drawing, and coloring, and listening to music.
Esmeralda will be remembered for her sassy, loving, free spirit. She was a very expressive young woman who loved being with her family and friends. She often expressed her love for life and the love of others through hugs. In return, she was easy to love. Her caring nature extended to animals, especially cats, and she once proudly helped deliver a litter of kittens.
Esmeralda is survived by her father, Jose Fuentes (Lindsey Staff) of Fargo, ND; her mother, Yaneth (Marvin Miller) Meyo of Crookston, MN; siblings: Angel, Yulianna, Marianna, Marvin Miller III, Mattea Swiggum; grandmothers, Fernanda Meyo of Crookston, MN, and Juanita Fuentes-Carmona of Mexico; and a grandfather, Jose Maria Fuentes of Crookston, MN.
She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Cipriano Meyo; an uncle, Laurencio Romero; and great-grandmothers, Candelaria Carmona; and Patricia Meyo.
