Tri-Valley Crookston Head Start partnered with the Crookston Fire Department, Crookston Police Department, and Crookston Area Ambulance Service to host a Safety Night on October 22 to teach families about safety.
Several parents and children attended a safety presentation led by Cody, a police officer, and Garrett, a firefighter.
Cody spoke with children and parents about staying safe while outside at night. He emphasized the importance of not wearing all-black clothing, using reflective items or glow sticks to increase visibility, staying with a trusted adult, and waiting for a grown-up before crossing the street.
Garrett discussed fire safety with families, including the importance of having an escape plan in case of a fire, knowing where to meet outside the home, and understanding why it is important not to hide during an emergency.
Following the presentations, Cody and Garrett gave families the opportunity to explore the squad car and fire truck. The children especially enjoyed honking the horns, turning on the sirens, and getting an up-close look at the emergency vehicles.
