Golfers, prepare for some glow-in-the-dark fun with the Benedictine Foundation’s Glow Ball Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Minakwa Golf Course.
Foundation Director Cassie Rudie is the coordinator for this annual event, which incorporates a mix of daytime and nighttime golf along with carts decorated with lights, glow attire, and glow golf balls. Teams of four will register at 3:30 p.m. for the 18-hole event, with a shotgun start at 4:00 p.m. “We have some hole games and some different things going on, and then after the first round is golfed during the day, we have a good supper catered by The Ranch, and some more games and raffle prizes and things going on, and then that gives people an opportunity to kind of decorate their carts and get some glow attire on,” Rudie explained. “Then we’ve got some of our staff and volunteers who go out on the course during this time and light it up, so it’s all ready to go when the sun starts setting. Then the teams can head out for the second round. They get glow balls. We always do an award for the best decorated cart and best dressed. So we have people who go all out with their glow attire. It’s really fun.”
The cost to register a team of four is $600 and includes green fees, a catered dinner with snacks, and two glow balls for the evening golf session. Proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will go toward a new paging system that will integrate the current call system and allow staff to consolidate the devices they need to communicate with staff and monitor residents. “We have initiated a lot of new systems over the past few years,” said Rudie. “We’ve gotten a new call light system, a new secure door system, and we are looking to have a new paging system throughout our campus, and that is what all the funds will be used for is our paging system. We’re just upgrading our technology, so all of these new systems are able to talk to each other and it’ll help us to be better prepared during emergencies and different things. So it’s a very important project, so like I said, it’s a night of fun, but it goes to a great cause to help keep our residents safer and just make our campus a better place to live and work.”
Over the years, the glow golf fundraiser has helped fund a WanderGuard system and other improvements at Benedictine Assisted Living, and Rudie is incredibly thankful to see the support of the Crookston community through this event. Whether it’s local businesses providing hole and tournament sponsorships or the golfers that participate, she is grateful that the community can come together and support a great cause. “The Crookston community and the surrounding area are always so good to donate and help out. You know, we’re blessed. We have such a generous community, and they always show up for these events.”
