GRACE FISCHER HEADING TO STATE TOURNAMENT AFTER CAREER BEST ROUND ON DAY 2 OF SECTION 8AA GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Crookston Pirates had three individuals competing the past two days at the Section 8AA Golf Tournament at the Bemidji Town and Country Club and got a beautiful day to wrap up the tournament on Tuesday. Halle Nicholas shot a 100 on day two for a total score of 207, and a 34th place finish, and Garrett Fischer shot a 90 for a two-day score of 183 for a 31st place finish.

Grace Fischer however shot a career-best 84, and along with it comes a trip to the State Tournament, as she finished with a two-day score of 177 for a 9th place finish overall, and a 5th place finish for girls not on the winning team, which was enough to earn the trip to the State Tournament as the top five individuals not on the winning team make the trip to State.

Fergus Falls won the Girls division with an impressive team score of 680 over the two days, which was 26 strokes better than second-place finishing Perham. The Roseau Rams won the Boys division with a two-day score of 639, 9 strokes better than second-place finishing Fergus Falls.

GIRLS –
Grace Fischer started her round today on the back nine on shot three straight bogeys before running into some trouble on hole 13 and carding a triple bogey. She would settle down from there and shot just +1 the rest of the way on the back nine for a solid 43 that included a birdie on the 257-yard par-four sixteenth hole. The 43 was one stroke better than her back nine score yesterday of 44.

On the front nine of the course, Fischer continued to play excellent golf and was incredibly consistent, recording four pars, and five bogeys for a score of 41. Her round ended with a lengthy par putt on the ninth hole that she sank to finish with a total score of 84, which was 9 strokes better than her round yesterday and one of the best rounds on day 2 for the Girls Tournament. The 84 was also a career best for Fisher, and her 41 on the front nine was also 8 strokes better than the 49 she shot yesterday. Grace would end up waiting a couple of hours before knowing if her two-round total of 177 would be enough to advance to the State Tournament next week. Once all the scores were turned in, it was official, and Fischer had done enough to punch her ticket to the State Tournament next week, finishing in 5th place out of golfers, not on the winning team.

Halle Nicholas also started her round on the back nine and started the day with three double bogeys before a bogey and then a par on the 110-yard par-three fourteenth hole. She would tally one other par on the 257-yard par-four sixteenth hole, to go along with two more double bogeys, and a triple bogey, for a back nine score of 50, which was an improvement from yesterday where she shot 52 on that nine holes.

After the turn, Nicholas would shave off five more strokes on her front nine score yesterday, shooting a 50 with one par, three bogeys, four double bogeys, and a triple bogey for a total score of 100 on the round, which was 7 strokes better than her overall score yesterday. Nicholas finished with a two-round total of 207 which was good for a 34th place finish.
