GRAND FORKS POLICE DEPARTMENT DISPATCHED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AT ORTON’S

On Friday, March 10, 2023, at approximately 09:09 p.m., officers of the Grand Forks Police Department were dispatched to an attempted robbery that occurred at Orton’s on South Washington Street (2002 South Washington Street). A male subject entered the gas station and brandished a black handgun while making statements about the cash register. The male subject then got into a vehicle and left the scene.

Through the course of the investigation, the suspect vehicle and suspect were identified in this case. Around 11:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle was observed traveling in the area of Rumor’s Bar. Contact was made with the suspect vehicle which ended up being driven by the robbery suspect. The suspect was identified as Marquais Burns, a 35-year-old resident of Grand Forks. Marquais Burns was in possession of a handgun matching the description of the weapon used at Orton’s during the robbery. Marquais Burns was arrested on scene and without incident for attempted robbery, terrorizing, possession of a stolen handgun, and driving with a suspended license.
