Highland Elementary to host Family Night as school year nears conclusion

Highland Elementary School will be hosting its annual family night this Wednesday, May 13, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.

This fun event will feature games and activities for everyone, as principal Chris Trostad says this event is a chance for Highland and Washington School families to enjoy the end of a productive and exciting school year. “We want to invite anybody from the Washington and Highland schools, parents and children,” says Trostad. “We serve free food. We provide some fun activities like face painting. We’re also gonna do some cornhole games, we have some chalk and bubble stations. We also have the fire department come, and we have the s’more tables out for kids to do. There’s gonna be a slideshow that the parents can see.”

Trostad says other activities at the family night will include a Scholastic Book Fair, along with a free closet and a free food pantry. Rides to the event will be available through Tri-Valley by calling 218-281-0700. Trostad says that as the school year comes to an end, it was a productive year for students and staff, and thanks parents for their work in helping their children grow over the school year.

“It’s a lot of work, it goes by fast, and the next thing you know, you’re down to 10 to 15 days of school left,” says Trostad. “The kids work really hard, the teachers work really hard, we appreciate all the parents support, and we do our best to get the most amount of growth for every student in our school.”

The last day of school for the Crookston School District 2025-2026 academic year is May 29.
