Crookston Pirate junior Katherine Geist ran her best time at State in this her fifth straight appearance and the 18:58.4 was good enough for ninth place at the Minnesota State Class A Girl’s Cross-Country Meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Mn. The 5,000 meter run was won by Winona Cotter sophomore Grace Ping in 17:19.4 ahead of her younger sister, eighth-grader Lauren Ping. Geist finished 51st last year so her improvement this year was remarkable! The top 12 finishers were underclassmen.
