Leona (Hoefer) Schmitz Bevolden, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Hillcrest Senior Living surrounded by her loving family.Leona (Hoefer) Schmitz Bevolden

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner officiating. Burial will be held at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held on Sunday June 5, 2022 3 PM until 5 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Leona (Hoefer) Schmitz Bevolden was born on April 24, 1921, twins were born to Gertrude (Venticher) and John Hoefer. Leo and Leona were born in Blunt, SD. She lived there until 1938 when her and her father and two sisters and twin brother moved to Minnesota.

Leona was united in marriage to Ted Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN on October 14, 1941. They lived there and farmed until the death of Ted in 1972. This farm North of Red Lake Falls was homesteaded in 1941. Leona lived on the farm until 1978 when she sold the farm to her son Tom, and she moved to town. She worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls for 18 years. In 1985 she married Palmer Bevolden of Thief River Falls, MN.

Leona loved her family, she enjoyed gardening, sewing quilts and making sure all of her family got a quilt she made. Putting puzzles together, she enjoyed many hours of fun. She loved to dance, especially with husbands Ted and Palmer. Leona was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters of Court St. Cecilia #2025 for many years.

Leona is survived by seven children Delbert (Eunice) Schmitz, Daniel (Mary Lou) Schmitz, Thomas (Carol) Schmitz, all of Red Lake Falls, MN, Theodore (Cheri) Schmitz of Minneola, MN, daughters; Pauline (Clarence) Kuznia of Aitkin , MN, Ruth (Larry) Morrison of Detroit Lakes, MN, Dolores (Mark) Fraire of Shelton, WA; grandchildren Deanna, Darin, Darcy, Denise, Dion, Wade, Christopher, Jeffrey, Juanita, Carol, Paul, Phillip, Todd, Marla, Aulaire, Garrett, Lacey, Clayton, Charlie and Austin: 41 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and one on the way the first half of June.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, twin sister of Daniel in 1952, buried as baby Schmitz; husband Ted Schmitz, husband Palmer Bevolden, daughters Bonita (Tony) Kazmierczak, Veronica (Frank) Kasprowicz; brothers Andy, Martin, Lawrence, and twin brother Leo; sisters Dena, Regina, Rose, Philimenia and Helen.
