Lorraine Tastad – Obit

Lorraine Tastad, age 92, of Twin Valley, MN, died Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Perham Hospital, Perham, MN.Lorraine Tastad

Lorraine Skauge was born on May 8, 1929, near Hendrum, MN, to Fred and Bertha “Toni” (Oftedahl) Skauge. When Lorraine was a young girl, the family moved to Twin Valley where she was raised. Lorraine attended Marsh Creek Country School and began waitressing at the local café. On December 25, 1949, Lorraine was united in marriage to David Tastad. The couple lived for a time in Crookston, MN, before moving back to the Twin Valley area. Along with being a waitress, Lorraine also worked for the Viking snowmobile factory for a time.  Above all, her most treasured job was being a wife and mother. She was a busy mom, doting on her son, Ron, as well as raising a garden, canning, cooking, and baking. Lorraine loved the outdoors and spent many hours in her yard and garden. She made wonderful meals and often showed her love with food.  As the years passed, Lorraine was delighted to become a grandma and great-grandma. She was always the first to volunteer to watch her grandchildren and cuddle the babies.  Following David’s death in 2015, Lorraine remained in the comfort of her own home.  She had a special place in her heart for all animals. She dutifully fed them and loved to watch the animals out her windows, especially the cats, deer, and birds.  Her strong faith in the Lord was evident throughout her life.  She enjoyed watching Sunday church services on the television, listening on the radio, and prayerfully singing along with the hymns. Lorraine was always delighted when family visited her. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Ron (Loretta) Tastad of Perham; four grandchildren: Jennifer (Ian) Kimball of McKinney, TX, Lynette (Miles) Orth of Horace, ND, Brian (Rita) Tastad of Twin Valley, and Diana (Linnea) Tastad-Damer of St. Paul, MN; four great-granddaughters: Lauren and Emily Kimball, and Amelia and Laken Orth; one brother, Harold (JoAnn) Skauge of Ulen, MN; one sister, Francis (Dennis) Bueng of Twin Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; and two brothers, Terrance and Frank.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery.
