Luverne C. Petry – Obit

Luverne C. Petry, 86, Ada, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.    Luverne C. Petry

Luverne was born at home in Lockhart Township, near Ada on January 9, 1936, the youngest child to Albert and Alma (Leiser) Petry. He attended grade school in Lockhart and graduated from Ada High School in 1954.

He was united in marriage to Carol Buchholz on September 3, 1960, at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen. They became the parents of two sons and later a daughter by adoption. He ran a successful dairy (started milking while in high school) operation until 1996 and then continued his small grain farming with nephew Jeff. He and Carol moved off the farmstead in the summer of 2020 to Summerfield Place due to health reasons. Hospice joined in the care for the past 2 months and the local nursing home the last two days.

He was active in JC’s including winning Outstanding Young Farmer in 1972. He and Carol were part of the Ada Valley Squares. Luverne served on the township board and helped with 4-H. He transferred from First English Lutheran Church in Lockhart to Grace Lutheran Church in Ada in 1972 and was active on many boards and as president of the congregation. He taught Sunday School, was a Stephen Minister and was on the Transitional Ministry team. He especially enjoyed singing in the choir for 44 years. He sang at innumerable weddings and funerals in the community. After retirement, he joined the staff of Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Homes and faithfully served as a part-time funeral assistant and driver for twelve years.

He was lucky to have many trips with his wife and friends or family including Mexico, Norway, Alaska, Hawaii, and out west. Also trips to other US destinations for fun and visits with extended family. Lovey was a faithful man. He had a strong work ethic doing all the traditional roles within the family. He enjoyed music. He prioritized church attendance and activities. He was conservative in life choices that allowed him to be generous to many charities.

Preceded in death by his parents, his brothers (Alvin, Vernon, Don, Leroy), and sister (Elaine).  His brother-in-law (Orville Thorsteinson) and sisters-in-law (Ethel, Mernice).

He is survived by his wife, Carol, and his children and their families, Brad (Carol) and kids: Beata and Lydia, Bob (Marie) and kids: Elizabeth (Brent Kemp) and grandkids: Vincent, Everett, Aveline; and Karl (Erika) and Cathy.
