Myrtle M. Ellis, 93 of Crookston, MN passed way Monday,  January  17, 2022  at Villa St. Vincent Care Center where she had resided since July 2021.Myrtle M. Ellis

Myrtle was born May, 25, 1928 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Harold and Florence Staehnke.  The Staehnkes moved to Clearwater County, Minnesota in May 1932.  Myrtle graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1945 and moved to St. Paul for employment.

In 1946 Myrtle was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Clarence Ellis.  The couple made their home in St. Paul and later in Greenbush, Minnesota before moving to Salol, MN in 1951.  They lived in Salol for 23 years before moving to Crookston, MN in 1974.  Myrtle worked in the grain elevator office and was active in Salol School activities, and various activities in Salol First Lutheran Church.  She was church pianist and organist for many years.

Myrtle enjoyed bookkeeping and had many contract cooperative ledger jobs for small rural elevators.  In addition she worked fastidiously on genealogy history for all members of the Staehnke and Ellis families.  She proudly published a detailed genealogy of her father’s family.  A copy of that publication resides in the University of Minnesota – Moorhead genealogy library.

Along with Clarence she was a long time member of Salol First Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crookston.  Myrtle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and neighbor and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Myrtle is survived by her sons David (Bonnie) Ellis of Bothell, WA and Gene Ellis of Portland, OR;

Granddaughters, Hayley Ellis (Hernando Tellez) and Flannery Ellis; and great- granddaughters, Cecilia and Camila; and brother, Glenn Staehnke (Edith) of Rodgers, Minnesota. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and a brother.

The family would like to thank special neighbors, friends and relatives who were of such support while Myrtle was living in her home as well as the staff of Villa St. Vincent Long Term Care Center for their professional and family oriented and compassionate care.

The Memorial Service for Myrtle will be held in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Crookston, in the spring. That information will be released when it becomes available.
