NORTHERN FREEZE OUT-DUELS CROOKSTON SOFTBALL

The Crookston Pirates and Northern Freeze had a good old-fashioned pitchers dual, and the Freeze came away with a 2-0 victory in the Agassiz Valley Conference matchup in Thief River Falls.

FIRST INNING
The Freeze were retired in 1-2-3 fashion to start the game. Crookston’s Emily Bowman led off the bottom of the inning with a walk before the next three batters were retired.

FOURTH INNING
The Freeze recorded the first hit of the game when the pitcher Brooklyn Dahle blasted a fly ball to deep left field for a stand-up double with one out. Crookston pitcher Emily Bowman was able to strike out the next batter, and the final out came on a nice grab on a line drive to second baseman Rilynn Aubol for the final out.
Crookston’s Aubol hit a ball to second base, and when it hit the dirt and had so much backspin, it rolled back, and Rilynn beat the throw to first base for the first Pirate hit of the game. The next three batters were retired and the Freeze took a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning.

FIFTH INNING –
Crookston’s Dani Kresl came into pitch the fifth inning and retired all three batters she faced for a 1-2-3 inning.

SIXTH INNING –
The Pirate defense continued its stellar play in the sixth inning with flyouts to second base and another to right field. The third out of the inning was a nice play by shortstop Reese Swanson who scooped up a ground ball and threw to first base and Kambelle Frieje made a great stretch and grab for the out.

SEVENTH INNING –
The first two Northern Freeze batters were retired before back-to-back singles by Tessa Hoglo and Faith Efta. The next batter hit a ground ball to Swanson and she got the out at third base to get out of the inning.
