OSOWSKI AND DYKHOFF LEAD UMC BASEBALL PAST NORTHERN STATE IN A DOUBLE-DIP

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Baseball team beat the Northern State 4-1 and 3-0 in a Northern Sun Conference doubleheader in Aberdeen, South Dakota. UMC has won eight games in a row.

FIRST INNING
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Northern State started the bottom of the inning with a single and two groundouts to score a run for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the second straight inning. Northern State had a one-out single before the next two batters were retired.

THIRD INNING
UMC’s Danny Wensloff (Sr. Roseau) started the inning with a single. Kobe Senn singled, and Caden Headlee singled to score Wensloff to tie the game at 1-1.
Northern State had another one-out single before the next two batters were retired by UMC pitcher Jake Osowski (Sr. East Grand Forks).

FOURTH INNING
The fourth inning was a quick one, with both teams going down in 1-2-3 fashion.

FIFTH INNING
The first two UMC batters flew out before Senn reached on an error. The next batters lined out.
Northern State started the bottom of the inning with a single before UMC turned a double play, and the next batter flew out, and the game was tied at 1-1.

SIXTH INNING
UMC’s Teddy Giefer singled with one out. Jake Hjelle (Sr. East Grand Forks) and Josh Dykhoff (Soph. Wadena) singled to load the bases. Kodi Miller singled to score two runs, and Danny Wensloff flew out to right field to score another run, giving the Golden Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Northern State was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. 

SEVENTH INNING
The first two UMC batters grounded out before Headlee reached on an error. The next batter struck out, and UMC took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the inning.
The Northern State leadoff batter doubled to left field before the next three batters were retired, and UMC won the game 4-1. 

UMC pitcher Jake Osowski improved to 9-0 in the year. The nine wins are a UMC school record.

GAME TWO –

FIRST INNING
UMC set the tone at the start of the game when leadoff batter Sawyer Satrom (Soph. Portland, ND) singled. After an out, Giefer walked and Hjelle singled to score a run. Josh Dykhoff reached on a fielder’s choice before Danny Wensloff doubled to score a run for a 2-0 lead.
Northern State was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SECOND INNING
Mitch Goodwin started the inning with a walk, but the next batter hit into a double play. Satrom singled and stole second before the next batter was retired.
The first two Northern State batters were retired. The next batter reached on an error and the next batter grounded out.

THIRD INNING
Giefer started the inning with a double and Hjelle singled. Dykhoff lined out to left field, but it was deep enough to score a run for a 3-2 lead.
Dykhoff continued his solid pitching as he retired Northern State in 1-2-3 fashion.

FOURTH INNING
Satrom reached on an error with one out before the next two batters were retired. Northern State was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. 

FIFTH INNING
Dykhoff singled with one out before the next two batters were retired. Northern State led off the inning with two singles before the next three batters were retired.

SIXTH INNING
UMC’s Satrom had a two-out single before a fielder’s choice retired him and the Golden Eagles with a 3-0 lead. Northern State was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SEVENTH INNING
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Northern State started the bottom of the inning with a walk before the next three batters were retired.

EIGHTH INNING
Danny Wensloff walked before the next three batters were retired. Northern State had a batter reach on an error with one out before the next batter hit into a double play and UMC took a 3-0 lead into the ninth inning.

NINTH INNING
Satrom led off with a single. After an out, Giefer singled, but the next two batters struck out. Northern State’s leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, but UMC’s Noah Grafsgaard retired the next three batters and UMC completed the doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 victory while the Golden Eagle pitching staff only gave up two hits in the game.

UMC improves to 33-14 overall and 27-10 in the NSIC and will wrap up the regular season with one nine-inning game at Northern State on Saturday.  The NSIC tournament will start on Wednesday, May 8, at Bismarck, and KROX will have all the UMC games on the radio.
Northern State drops to 18-30 overall and 13-25 in the NSIC.

IF UMC wins on Saturday they will assure themselves of the third seed in the NSIC tournament. If MSU-Mankato would lose two games against SW Minnesota State and a UMC win on Saturday would give the Golden Eagles the second seed.
