Our Saviors Lutheran School will host a musical “The Lion, The Switch, and the Warm Robes” on Wednesday, May 6, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Crookston at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m.
The students have been working hard, memorizing lines and getting everything ready for the play about modern-day kids who enter virtual reality to ancient Babylon.
KROX talked with the three sixth graders who will be playing the lead roles to see how things are going.
Soren DeBoer said they are getting ready for Wednesday, and his character’s name is Danny. “It’s been really good so far. I, I have all of my parts memorized so far, but I don’t really know. I don’t have it completely memorized, like when I speak and stuff, but I’m pretty good so far,” Said DeBoer, who added remembering the lines is the hardest part. “Yeah, it actually is kind of the hardest part because I usually remember what my lines are.”
Chase Stueber will be busy with a lot of lines and costume changes. “My character’s name is Harry, and I’m coming in pretty much every scene except two, and I keep switching costumes,” said Stueber. “So why I switch costumes is that I first started out as an astronaut, switching into another costume, and then switching just like everyone else.”
Gus Kangesier will be part of every scene and has enjoyed the process. “My character’s name is Abdi, and I’m basically a guide in the game that helps everyone out. And basically I come up in every scene,” said Kangesier. “It’s been pretty fun. I’d say my lines are kind of big, but it’s just fun playing it and, like, talking enthusiastically and stuff.”
DeBoer said he thinks he is ready to be one of the lead characters. “I kind of look forward to it, but once I figured out that I have exactly 50 parts,” said DeBoer. ” I was kind of like, this is a little bit too much, but I think I can memorize them all.”
Stueber said he got the part he wanted. “Yeah, I was kind of like the same with Soren’s, but I don’t have 50 parts,” said Stueber. “But I actually really wanted this part, and now I got it.”
Kangesier said he has a much bigger part this year. “I have 42 solo parts, and I think I talk a lot,” said Kangesier. Last year I had like two parts, and so I think it’s a big step up. And I think I really like it too.”
The name of the musical is “The Lines, The Switch, and The Warm Robes” and will be on Wednesday, May 6th at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m., and the public is invited. The boys said they hope you come and see it. “It’s a really fun play. I hope you come to see it. We practiced a lot and tried a lot. We only did this play just to tell lots of people about Jesus and how he saved us from our sins,” said the boys. “The play is basically about how Jesus saves a bunch of people because they believe in Jesus and they get eternal life in heaven.”
