PCSO RESPONDS TO CAR THAT STRUCK A FIRE TRUCK DURING MONDAY’S FIRE

On Monday, March 29 at 5:26 pm Polk County Dispatch received a call of a Motor vehicle crash on 320th Street SE and 120th Avenue SE.  A dark-colored pickup truck struck an Erskine Fire Department vehicle head-on and then continued driving West nearly missing another fire truck.  The driver did not stop at the scene of the crash.  The Erskine Fire truck received significant damage and was disabled.  The driver of the Erskine Fire truck was Jesse Hickman who was not injured but would go get checked out by medical personnel.

The driver of the second vehicle was later identified as 47-year-old Mark Johnson of Mentor.  Johnson’s vehicle, a 2016 Dodge Ram, also received severe damage.

At the time of the motor vehicle crash, visibility was poor due to heavy smoke from the grass fire in the area.

The case is still under investigation.
