Phillip Peterick – Obit

Phillip Peterick, age 77, of Twin Valley, MN, died Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN, surrounded by family.Phillip Peterick

Phil was born March 28, 1944, to Joseph and Irene (Kvamme) Peterick in Milwaukee, WI. In 1946, the family moved to Twin Valley and made their home. Phil attended school and graduated from Twin Valley High School. Shortly after graduation, Phil attended Interstate Business College and later joined the United States Army in 1964. After his honorable discharge in 1966, Phil returned to Twin Valley and entered the workforce. He began working for Midwestern Gas, which became Viking Gas.  On June 6, 1970, Phil was united in marriage to Margaret Kneip at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Dilworth, MN.  The couple lived in Ada, MN, for a few years before returning to Twin Valley to put down roots.  They were blessed with five children: James, Jennifer, Jackie, Joe, and John.  After 37 years of faithful employment for Viking Gas, Phil retired in 2003. However, he continued to keep active as he worked an additional eight years at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen before completely retiring.

Phil had many hobbies that kept him busy including woodworking, fishing, hunting, riding his 4-wheeler, and work.  Working wasn’t just a source of income, he truly enjoyed working and being able to help others.  He was a jack of all trades kind of guy and was always willing to help anyone with whatever task was at hand.  Phil had a great knack for numbers and dates, even remembering high school classmates’ birthdays.  He liked to play Bingo, try his luck at Cenex with scratch-off tickets, a cold Diet Pepsi, and that you could have any ice cream treat in the freezer as long as it wasn’t his Schwann’s Golden Nuggets!  Phil’s love for sports started when he was young and throughout his life, the momentum carried forward.  He loved watching professional teams like the Minnesota Twins but was also a great supporter of local athletics.  He attended as many games and events of his children and grandchildren as he could.  Always right down front being their biggest fan!  Phil loved all his family and especially his wife, Margaret, in fact so much we think his favorite word was “Margaret”!  Over the years, Phil was active on the City Council, school board, Jaycee’s, and the Twin Valley Fire Department.  He was a faithful member of St. William Catholic Church, helping with many church activities and cemetery upkeep.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Phil leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Margaret; three sons: James of Detroit Lakes, MN, Joe (Deanne) of Twin Valley, and John (Sam) of Ulen; two daughters, Jennifer (David) Bement of Twin Valley, and Jackie (Jason) Allen of Underwood, MN; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Kay Peterick of Twin Valley; and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John Peterick, in January of 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, Twin Valley. A recording of the service will be available on Phil’s obituary page shortly following the service. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m., all at the church.
