PIRATE BOYS BASKETBALL FALLS TO BAGLEY AFTER 3 MINUTE SCORING DROUGHT

The Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team had a three-minute scoring drought, and that was the difference in the game as the Bagley Flyers pulled away late for a 66-58 victory in a game played at the Crookston High School gymnasium.

FIRST HALF
Bagley had the hot hand in the first minute of the game as they made the first two shots for a 5-0 lead. Crookston caught fire the next few minutes as Isaac Thomforde made a basket before Tyler Michaelson scored eight straight points, and before Bagley knew it, the Pirates led 10-5. Bagley responded with four points before Crookston rattled off eight consecutive points, with Reggie Winjum scoring six points and Michael Deng adding a basket for an 18-9 lead. The back-and-forth battle continued as Bagley went on a 15-5 run, capped by a Logan Broten three-point play for a 24-23 lead with 3:55 left in the half.
Crookston’s Thomforde responded with a three-pointer, only to have Bagley answer with three points to take a 27-26 lead. Crookston’s Thomforde was fouled on a three-point shot and made all three free throws. Caden Boike followed with a steal and a layup. After a Bagley basket, Thomforde buried another three-pointer, and Crookston took a 34-29 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF
Bagley started the second half like they started the game, by scoring the first six points with three players scoring for a 35-34 lead. Once again, Crookston’s Thomforde had the answer with another three-pointer. After Bagley’s Broten scored, Thomforde buried another three-pointer. Bagley’s Drayden Thompson made a basket before Thomforde made two free throws for a 42-39 lead with 11 minutes left in the game. The teams went back and forth, and Crookston had a 49-48 lead with 6:07 remaining. Bagley took over the game over the next three minutes by going on a 13-0 run with eight straight points from Alexander Jobe for a 61-49 lead. Crookston finally got the lid off their basket as Winjum made a three-pointer, and Boike had a basket to get within a 61-54 deficit.  Bagley was able to hold off the Pirates in the final minute for a 66-58 victory.

Crookston drops to 5-20 on the year and will wrap up the regular season hosting Kittson County Central on Friday. Bagley improves to 10-15 on the year.
