PIRATE BOYS GOLFERS FINISH SEVENTH IN FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON

The Crookston Pirate Boys Golf team finally got their first round of the year under their belts and finished seventh place out of 10 teams at the Earlybird Golf Tournament at the par 64, 4,300 yard Lakeview Golf Course near Detroit Lakes.  Detroit Lakes won the meet with a 277, eight strokes better than Fargo Davies and West Fargo-Sheyenne.
The medalist was Detroit Lakes’ Lukas Justesen with a 66 (two over par), which was one stroke better than four other golfers.

Crookston was led by Trey Christopherson’s 72 and Brock Heppner’s 73.  “They went out and played pretty well minus a couple of holes,” said Pirate Boys Coach Steve Kofoed.  “Brock started out with a double (bogey) and double.  Then he played pretty solid and ended with a three-putt.  Trey was off on his chipping today.  He was scrambling well and got himself out of some trouble on a few holes and those two guys along with Jack (Ricord) will have to be consistent for us this year.”
The Pirates were happy with the way they played, considering they haven’t been out on a course practicing yet this year.
“For the most part, they all had a couple of bad holes, but their short game wasn’t where it needed to be or will be and that is to be expected on the first round of the year,” said Coach Kofoed. “We were just happy to be out and the sun was shining on the golf course.  We are hoping the weather will cooperate and we will get a lot of golf in the rest of the season.”
Crookston will be back in action near Walker on Friday.  The location is yet to be determined.
