The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team beat the Perham Yellowjackets 5-2 and the East Grand Forks Green Wave 4-3 on a warm and windy day in Crookston.
CROOKSTON VS PERHAM-
Crookston beat Perham for the second time in a week, and like the first time, all the matches but one were close contests.
SINGLES-
Isaac Thomforde won an exciting first set by a 7-6 score before cruising to a 6-0 win in the second set to win his first singles match. At second singles, Crookston’s Reggie Winjum won a tight battle with a 6-4 first-set win, and the second set was even tighter with a 7-5 victory. Perham won the third singles match in another three-setter. Crookston’s Sam Widseth won the first set 6-3, Perham bounced back to win the second set 6-2, forcing a third set, and the Yellowjacket won 10-4. The fourth doubles match was another three-setter as Perham won the match. In the first set, it was Perham winning 6-4. Crookston’s Ethan Erdman answered with an exciting 7-6 victory in the second set. In the third set, Perham won another tight set by an 11-9 score.
DOUBLES-
Crookston won all three doubles match as they continue to show off their solid depth. Tatum Lubinski and Nathan Kelly won a three-set match at first doubles. They won the first set 6-2 before losing the second set 6-2. In the third set, Crookston won 12-10!
The second doubles team of Gunnar Groven and Grant Funk won their match in two sets. Both sets were close, and they were able to sneak out a 7-5, 6-4 victory. The third doubles team of Jack Everett and Elliot Bartrum was the only match that wasn’t close as they cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

CROOKSTON VS EGF-
Crookston and East Grand Forks met for the second straight day, and both teams decided to use a bit of a different lineup.
SINGLES-
Reggie Winjum moved up to first singles and came away with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Sam Widseth moved up to second singles and ran into a tough opponent and lost 6-1, 6-3. Ethan Erdman, who usually plays doubles, played third singles and had a good battle before coming up short 6-2, 6-4. Crookston picked up the second win at singles with Jack Everett winning the first set 6-2 and won a great second set 7-6 to win his match.
DOUBLES-
Isaac Thomforde and Nathan Kelly teamed up for a rare doubles appearance by Thomforde and had no problems as they cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Crookston’s second doubles team of Gunnar Groven and Tatum Lubinski teamed up for a 6-4, 6-2 victory. East Grand Forks won the third doubles match by 6-2 scores, and Crookston won the match 4-3.
