PIRATE GIRLS GOLF BRINGS 2 TEAMS TO ROSEAU INVITE – GRACE FISCHER MEDALIST

The Crookston Pirate Girls Golf team brought two teams to the Roseau Invitational on Monday and finished third and fifth place out of five teams.  Crookston 1 shot a 394, their second straight sub-400 team score, and Crookston 2 shot a 444.  The meet was won by East Grand Forks with a 379.  “We were exactly where we thought we would be,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault. “We chipped better, and we were putting much better.”

Grace Fischer had her best round of the year and was the invite’s medalist.  She had a birdie on the par-4 356 yard 17th hole.  She also parred holes 10, 12, and 14.  She shot a 41 on the back nine, which was only six over par.  On the front nine, she had five bogies, and four double bogies for a total of 90. “That was her best round of the year for her.  I think her game right now is going pretty good, but her putter has been failing her, and that is because we haven’t been able to practice.  So I expect to see her in the 80’s once we get some practice on and around the greens.”

Halle Nicholas shot a 52 on the front nine with three bogies, five double bogies, and one triple.  On the back nine, She parred holes 14 and 17.  She also had three bogies, two double bogies, and two triple bogies for a round of 100. “Back-to-back 100’s and she left some strokes on the course today,” said Coach Perreault. “She is working hard at getting under 100, and that will come pretty soon.”

Ava Martin struggled on the front nine and shot a 57, and only had two bogies to lead the round.  She was much better in the back nine, where she had a birdie on the par-four 356 yard 17th hole.  She also parred the par-four 285-yard 14th hole.  She also had four bogies, and three double bogies for a back-nine total of 44 for a round of 101. “She had a stretch where she was on the struggle bus and wasn’t happy about it,” said Coach Perreault. “She was able to get out of the funk and turn in a great score on the back nine, and that was great to see.”

Morgan Nelson was the fourth and final score used for the team score as she shot a 103.  On the front nine, she struggled with consistency and shot a 57.  On the back nine, she golfed much better.  She turned in three pars on holes 11, 14, and 17.  She also had one bogey, two double bogies, and three triple bogies for a 46 and a round total of 103.
Another good score for her.  When her tee game is on, she is tough, and it was a little hit or miss today,” said Coach Perreault. “The rest of her game was very good today, and that was good to see.

Georgia Sanders also struggled on the front nine with a 57.  On the back nine, she did much better.  She also had a birdie on the par 4 17th hole.  She added a par on the 14th hole and also had two bogies, three double bogies, one triple, and one quadruple bogie for a 49 and an 18 hole total of 106. “Her putter finally started to wake up, and that was great to see because she has been frustrated with it,” said Coach Perreault. “She is playing better every round and that is great to see.”

Kaylie Clauson struggled on the front nine and turned in a 66, but she bounced back nicely in the back nine.  “She birdied the 17th hole, parred the 10th and 14th hole.  She also had four bogies, and two big numbers for a back-nine total of 48 and an 18 hole total of 114. “She had a couple of big numbers today which hurt,” said Coach Perreault. “She has a great attitude and had a pretty good round if you take away a couple of holes.”

Team 2
Coral Breeken and Emelia Hoerner led the second Pirate team with 107’s and Lucy Smith shot a 114.  “When we learned we could bring everybody up to Roseau, that was great.  We got a few people, Emelia and Coral chipped in, so that was nice to see,” said Coach Perreault.  “We have seven or eight girls competing for the tournament team. It was good to get another round and great to see the continued improvement.”

Crookston Varsity will travel to Bemidji on Wednesday for the Fosston invitational.
