She also finished second place in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:07.9 which was one second off her school record. “She had a very good day today,” said Pirate Coach Amy Boll. “She is a very strong runner and even though the conditions weren’t good for the runners today, she had some of her best runs in her career, which is pretty impressive.”
Emma Borowicz had a great day with three top-six finishes. She finished second place in the 300 hurdles, tied for third place in the pole vault with a vault of 8 feet six inches, and she finished sixth place in the 200 meters. “She is a strong young lady that works really hard and is an amazing athlete,” said Coach Boll. “She ran hard today and really had a great performance.”
Breanna Kressin had two top-six finishes with a fourth place in the 300 hurdles and a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. “Breanna had some good races today,” said Coach Boll. “She worked hard and ran hard in both hurdle races and had a great day for us.”
The 4×800 Relay team of Thea Oman, Anke Weirsma, Hailey Spivey, and Hayden Winjum finished third place with a time of 10:30.8. “They set the tone for us today with a third in the first race,” said Coach Boll. “All four girls battled the cold and wind and ran a very good race.”
Jada Dillabough had a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a put of 35-05.75. “Jada had a good day in the shot put today,” said Coach Boll. “She wasn’t thrilled with her discus, so it was nice to have her come back with a strong showing in the shot put.”
Overall, it was a great experience for the Pirate girls. “It was a great day for the girls against top-notch competition in a beautiful facility like this, even in the cold,” said Coach Boll. “Some of the girls said the wind and cold almost knocked the breath out of them when the came around the corner, but they all competed hard with a lot of personal bests. Overall, it was a great experience for us today.”
