PIRATE SOFTBALL NO HIT BY DILWORTH-GLYNDON-FELTON IN SECTION 8AA TOURNAMENT

The Crookston Pirate Softball team’s season came to an end on Tuesday evening as they were defeated by the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (DGF) Rebels in the opening round of the Section 8AA Tournament. Autumn Leach threw a no-hitter in the game for the Rebels.

FIRST INNING
The Pirates went down quietly 1-2-3 in the top of the first with Rebels starting pitcher Autumn Leach picking up one strikeout. The Rebels first four hitters would all record hits and score in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-0 lead. Pirates starting pitcher Dani Kresl would settle in after that and get out of the inning with no more damage.

SECOND INNING
DGF pitcher Autumn Leach continued to cruise through the early innings and retired the Pirates in 1-2-3 fashion again in the second inning with two more strikeouts. Kresl responded with a 5 pitch inning in the bottom of the second, retiring the Rebels in order thanks in part to a nice grab from Emily Bowman in shallow left field, and we would head into the top of the third inning with the Rebels still in front 4-0.

THIRD INNING
For the third straight inning, the Pirates failed to get a base runner, and Autumn Leach struck out the side, bringing her total to 6 in just three innings. After a one-out walk in the bottom of the third inning, a flyout put the Pirates just one out away from putting up another scoreless inning. However, the Rebels would take advantage of a Crookston error on the next at-bat to score another run, and back-to-back doubles scored two more to give DGF a 7-0 lead after three complete innings of play.

FOURTH INNING
Crookston got their first base runner of the game in the top of the fourth inning with a walk from Kambelle Freije, but nothing more as Emily Bowman and Reese Swanson were both robbed of hits by great defensive plays from DGF. The Rebels added two more in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI triple from Skylar Spessard, who also came around to score later in the inning. That put DGF in front 9-0, entering the fifth inning.

FIFTH INNING
Crookston sent three hitters to the plate in the fifth inning and they were all retired on a total of just 6 pitches. The Rebels needed just one run to end the game in the fifth inning, and they would do just that with a leadoff triple followed by a double to win the game 10-0 in five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Crookston finishes their season with a final record of 2-16. They will lose two seniors from the team (Emilee Tate, Alex Luna) Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton advances to the next round of the Section 8AA Tournament as they continue to defend their title from a season ago.
