Red Lake County Baseball advances to Section 8A Championship with win over Bagley

The Red Lake County Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on to beat the young and scrappy Bagley Flyers in the Section 8A Baseball tournament semi-finals at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
Bagley’s Hayden Hanse walked with one out, but was picked off for the second out of the inning. Gunner Nolan singled up the middle before the next batter struck out.
Red Lake County’s Will Gieseke led off the bottom of the inning with a walk before stealing second base and scoring on a Gunnar Halverson single for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a pop fly to center field.
Red Lake County’s Denny Lanctot led off the bottom of the inning with a triple and scored on a Riley Broden single for a 2-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a groundout.
Red Lake County’s Ben Gullingsrud singled and stole second base. After an out, Halverson walked. The next batter lined out to second base, and the second baseman stepped on second base to get Gullingsrud for a double play to end the inning.

FOURTH INNING-
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and two lineouts.

Red Lake County’s Riley Broden doubled to the left-center field gap with one out. The next two batters flew out to left field and right field.

FIFTH INNING-
Bagley’s Wyatt Gerbract singled with one out, but was out at second. On a double play attempt, the Rebel throw sailed over first base into the crowd, and the Flyers had a runner at second base. Bradley Morse singled to score a run and cut the deficit down to one run at 2-1.
Red Lake County answered in the bottom of the inning when Gieseke tripled and scored on a Gullingsrud sacrifice fly. Colin Taggart walked, and after an out, Kegan Schmitz singled to score a run for a 4-1 lead. William Warne came into bat for Denny Lanctot after he was injured in his last at bat. Warne singled to right field to score a run for a 5-1 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a lineout.
Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before Gieseke singled. The next batter was retired and the Rebels were three outs from advancing to the Section 8A Championship.

SEVENTH INNING
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three groundouts, and Red Lake County won the game 5-1.

Red Lake County improves to 14-2 on the year and will take on the winner of Bagley and either West Marshall or Win-EMac in the Section 8A Championship on Thursday at Jim Karn Field in Crookston. Bagley drops to 14-8 on the year and will play the winner of West Marshall and Win-Mac at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
