RED LAKE COUNTY LEGION BASEBALL BEAT ROSEAU TO FINISH 3RD IN NW NORTH SUB-STATE TOURNEY

Red Lake County Post 22 and Post 623 pounded out 11 hits as they beat Roseau Post 24 10-3 in the third-place Northwest North Sub-state tournament game at Tony Sipe Field in Ada.

FIRST INNING-
Roseau’s Austin Baumgartner led off with a single before Chase Bachleitner reached on an error. A run scored on a wild pitch before the next two batters struck out. Lincoln Buchwitz reached on an error, and another run scored to give Roseau a 2-0 lead.
Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before Brock Seeger walked and stole second base. The next batter struck out, and the inning was over.

SECOND INNING-
Roseau’s Austin Wiskow led off with a walk before the next batter struck out. Baumgartner hit a hard ground ball to first base and Red Lake County’s Blake Audette stepped on first to get the force out and threw to second base to get the out to complete the double play.
Red Lake County’s Kegan Schmitz led off with a single. After an out, Brock Knott reached on an error. Cain Cardinal walked to load the bases before Gieseke singled to score two runs to tie the game at 2-2.

THIRD INNING-
Roseau was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two flyouts and a ground out.
Red Lake County added another run in the bottom of the inning when Seeger led off with a double. After the following two batters were retired, Taggart singled to score a run for a 3-2 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Roseau’s Buchwitz led off with a single before the next three batters were retired.
Red Lake County’s Gieseke reached on an error with one out before the next batter grounded out. Red Lake County started a two-out rally as Seeger singled to score a run, stole second base, advanced to third base on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch. A pitch hit Audette, and he advanced to third base on two wild pitches before scoring on a Kegan Schmitz single for a 6-2 lead.

FIFTH INNING-
Roseau’s Bachleitner singled with two outs and Eli Wensloff tripled to score a run to get within a 6-3 lead.
Red Lake County’s Cain Cardinal started the inning with a bunt single. Riley Broden bunted, and the throw to first sailed over the head of the first baseman, and Red Lake County had runners at first and second. Gieseke doubled to score two runs, and Gullingsrud singled before Seeger doubled to score two more runs for a 10-3 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
Roseau was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two flyouts and a ground out.
Cain Cardinal reached on a Roseau throwing error with one out before the next two batters were retired, and Red Lake County took a 10-3 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING-
The first two Roseau batters were retired before Baumgartner and Eli Kvien reached on errors. The next batter flew out to center field, and Red Lake County won the game.

Red Lake County improves to 11-5 on the year and will play the loser of DGF and Wadena on Thursday in the first round of the Northwest Sub-State tournament in Red Lake Falls, with the time to be determined. Roseau drops to 17-6 on the year and will play the winner of DGF and Wadena on Thursday in the first round of the Northwest Sub-State tournament in Red Lake Falls.
