RED LAKE FALLS VOLLEYBALL CRUISES TO WIN OVER PONIES IN SECTION 8A TOURNAMENT

The Red Lake Falls Eagles volleyball team played exceptional on Monday night and picked up a win in the opening round of the Section 8A Tournament over Warren-Alvarado-Oslo 25-5, 25-19, 25-8.

First Set
After the Ponies took an early 3-1 lead, RLF would rattle off an impressive ten straight points to take an 11-3 advantage and force a Ponies timeout. Highlighting the run for the Eagles was two kills from Gabby Casavan and two aces from Kiara Sauve. After another Sauve ace, Aaliyah Johnson would finally put an end to the run for WAO with a kill. The Ponies would trade a point then with the Eagles, but RLF would counter with another run to force a WAO timeout with the scoreboard reading 19-5. The timeout didn’t seem to do much, and the Eagles continued their impressive play scoring the last six points of the set to win it 25-5. They outscored the Ponies 24-2 in the set after trailing 3-1 early. Gabby Casavan led the way for the Eagles with four kills in the opening set.

Second Set
Once again the Ponies were able to take an early lead in the second set, but this time they maintained it. WAO got strong play out of Kylie Nelson and Reegan Mortimer and were able to keep a two to three point lead until they went on a small run to go up 15-9 and force a RLF timeout. The Eagles would counter off of the timeout with a 5-0 run to pull within one point at 15-14. The two teams traded points than for a bit until the match was knotted up at 18-18 where the Ponies would use a timeout. The Eagles would take advantage of several WAO mistakes the rest of the set and rattle off six points in a row to give themselves a set point in front 24-18. Kylie Nelson would help the Ponies fight off one set point with a kill, but the Eagles would wrap things up with a 25-19 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Third Set
The Eagles didn’t mess around in the third set, pulling in front early and taking a 12-5 lead after a Gabby Casavan ace. After a 4-1 run from there led by a couple of Ponies miscues, WAO would take a timeout to try and gather themselves trailing 16-7. RLF would continue to impress and end the match on a 9-1 run doing whatever they wanted too, winning the set 25-8, and the match in three sets.

Red Lake Falls improves to 19-9 on the season and advances to the second round of the Section 8A Tournament. The Eagles will battle the Lake of the Woods Bears on Thursday night as they try to continue their season. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo ends their season with a final record of 9-14.
